Has to be one of the strangest decisions I've seen and displays Xavi's conservative nature very well.

Against a deep defense like that you need your fullbacks to overlap and give you options and quality to open it up. He puts a center back there to ward off counter attacks from Getafe instead of putting someone with offensive ability.

Xavi is going down route of Pep and thinking being need defenders first in back three wide positions.

Pep adapted to that after being caught on break and his team folding in CL outwide and balls into box.

Araujo is not expetced to be an attacking threat in this set up he is expected to be right of a four when defending and right of a three when team have ball.

Issue is he is much worse on ball than thos City defenders and teams will leave him on it and he doesnt really have a RW outside him as outlet that is a threat either.

Kounde lacked pace and defending to be RB 1v1 wingers that often.

Can see Xavis thinking on this one.. IF Kounde/Christ are good enough to cover him being out there.

There are far more quick wide players than quick CFs to defend and at clubs Barca wll be up against in league and CL..

Real obviously have Vini, Bayern have a ton of them, PSG have Mbappe, Man Utd Rashford, Arsenal Martinelli is a flyer etc.

City dont and would imagine if met them its Araujo v Haaland in middle and switched back again.

Can see the thinking of Xavi on this one to be fair.
