One renewal we didn't need

We are renewing him another year (from what I understand, we agreed mutually to trigger his renewal clause, rather than waiting for him to hit the needed amount of games.)

It's a good decision.
He earns around 10m per season and came without a fee. It's impossible to find a defender you can bring in any top game without bellyache that costs only 10m/y in the books. A player who would earn 5m/y, but has a 30m fee would cost the club more than Inigo and he also needs to be on his level first.

Christensen probably developed added inflammatory issues from all the stress of being de-registered. Would be absolutely fine without it

He makes Araujo his backup easy. That bum can't count to 5, say his ABC's, or hold an offside trap

I like him for both his qualities as a player and as a leader. Only concern is his age. Particularly considering the way we play with that high line and lots of sprints by defenders

Given his performances and abilities, I am very surprised that Barca hasn't signed him sooner. So much time and money had been spent on unreliable CBs over the last 5-10 years that it's not even funny.

He is the best organiser/leader Barca have in the back line by a long way. The likes of Araujo pale in comparison and Cubarsi not there yet.

After Cubarsi he is with Garcia the best at playing ball out from back and fact he is left footed allows Cubarsi onto the right.

Obviously not the quickest and age/injuries against him while salary is steep for how often has been available.

Gamble to have him one more year.. or they try to shake hands and go seperate ways in summer anyway but this renewal just stops the speculation while Barca trying to win.

By renewing him early it also stops the speculation that Barca wanted rid but had to renew him due to clause.

There is something love to see about Basque CBs and the aggression they play with.

Likes of Martinez, Le Normand and Vivian this season. They seem to play with Ramos like agression and will to win that dont see as much elsewhere.
