6 - Gavi

He does fall a lot, and is only sometimes awarded the free kick. Maybe some are fooled by him then going into challenges without a care in the world, often being rewarded by a yellow card.

I think he is a bit out of his depth still, he does not really deserve the minutes he has been given so far. He is a very talented player and will grow into the tempo with age without a doubt. He needs to be told to calm down with his challenges, and he needs to tweak his decision making quite a bit, he is playing too safely on occasion and then taking unnecessary risks other times. It will come with time, but at this moment, he is not a bearing part of a successful team, but needs a foundation around him to be great.

So that moment where Gavi overhit the pass to the left and Xavi went absolutely mad, frothing from the mouth like Donald Trump losing the elections. Kind of a Koeman esque reaction. What was up with that?

Would he have given the same honorary reaction to a Busquet special dispossession?

He only ever looks impressive when Pedri is on the pitch. Lots of workrate and not much else. Very young at least, I hope he improves. Should probably ties his laces though.

This dude is made from steel and pure muscle. Poor Araujo.
I was very nervous when I saw Aspas and Eric turn Araujo over.
Glad he is fine and can now meme on this pit bull again.

How many times have you seen him play ?

He has got everything.. and only just 17 !

Highly skilled , awareness and vision of a 30 year old , determined and has the heart of Puyol !

I don't see his pass to Depay's red card draw in the video which was his best play yesterday, not a difficult one to make though either. Had a short lob pass to Alba in the box 1:55 too close to defender. He heads a ball directly to an opponent at 3:39. Puig was way more of a threat in half the playing time.

Yeah he was, even though he had an unusually quiet game.
Statistically, Puig had 2 progressive passes to Gavis 1, he played as many long passes and almost as many medium passes as Gavi, he played one into the area whereas Gavi didn't, and he had one pass that lead to a shot whereas Gavi didn't.

This thread is about Gavi, and (contrary to you?) I like him. He has the right intensity, movement off the ball (most the time), technique and even vision. He is much too stupid going into challenges, plays too conservatively or uncreatively most of the time, and also makes a bit too many mistakes (at least compared to what he gets criticized for) for my liking, and I think he should be a complementary player who does not start all the time or get 90 minutes, but I think his future in Barcelona should be bright.

I'm concerned about his medium to long pass accuracy which is a big red flag for a starting mid, so both skill and creativity. He gives me the air of a frat student. Off the ball movement is irrelevant to me if on the ball skill isn't elite, same with Torres.

To have a future we need meritocracy for our starting positions and the b team or training time for developing talent. Xavi's obviously happy Gavi follows his orders while it was made public he was pissed at Puig for roaming againt Betis. The irony of course is Puig performed better for it, so much so we couldn't believe possible he'd start Torres before him yesterday.
