They're going to be shit next year whether he stays or not, it's not like Coutinho is the the difference between them challenging for the PL. If they somehow keep hold of him this year there are no guarantees that's he's going to perform like he usually does and they'll get a lot less from us next year when they have no leverage. The smart move for Liverpool would be to sell now.
I would assume one of the reasons that Barca wants him is BECAUSE he is making a major difference in a squad like Liverpools.
