I think anyone in their right mind would have said 9 years ago that a 25 year old Iniesta would easily be worth paying 80-90m.

Market has changed but I think paying such a massive fee for Coutinho will also be very worth it.

If Iniesta was 25 today he would easily be worth 150m+ .. 80-90M 9 years ago is like 150,160m today.

Liverpool just stomped on their dicks and fucked us also for no reason. Had they sold in summer they would have had the money to invest properly. They refused and ended up with an unhappy player, leaving the midst of a fierce top four battle and a good champions league campaign. Us, we gained a 160 million player not eligible for the most important competition. The timing was not optimal for nobody, us and much less them.

You left it too late in the summer. Not enough time for replacements but now the club has no excuse and should have identified some new signings. It's criminal that Mignolet is still in goal and that we do not have a natural defensive midfielder. I suspect that Liverpool may announce a deal for someone before you officially sign Coutinho as it seems the way we do business under Klopp.

Iniesta was miles better in his prime in terms of his general all round play, but Coutinho has a far better end product than Iniesta's ever had. Quite frankly for all the talent Iniesta has/had, his goal/assist record is atrocious.

There's only so much people can say he 'assists the assister' before it becomes a bit of a stupid/tiresome argument in his favour.

The money for Coutinho is absurd, he's not a 100m player, but the Neymar deal has further fucked up the transfer market. Liverpool just signed an average defender for 75m.

Iniesta is probably a top 5 midfielder in history together with Xavi. Maybe top 10. So I think we need to leave him out of this discussion. Even suggesting that Coutinho can be his successor is bound to create too high expectations.

Iniesta would easily be worth more than 200m when Neymar goes for 222m, even taking into account Neymar's higher marketing profile.

Nope he is easily the better player now and EPL is one of toughest leagues in world.

Iniesta is not 'world class' these days and hasnt been for a while.

Stop speaking rubbish.

You have been spouting shite like this for ages on here. Coutinho so far has done fuck in the top level , Iniesta has been doing it for over a decade.
Give it a rest , lets see how he does , plenty supposed great players have failed miserably when they move to La Liga.

I've been a long time lurker on these forums. I'm a Liverpool fan but have always enjoyed reading these forums as Barca are a club that I, like every football fan admire, and these forums are great with views on football around Europe and South America.

Coutinho is going to be a fantastic player for you. He is an outstanding world class talent who I believe isn't near his peak. He has world class abilities as both a midfielder and attacker. Many flair players are very passive and lack drive. Coutinho is most certainly not one of them. Although he is a quiet lad he is extremely driven on the a football pitch and doesn't hide when things are going tough. If you want him to play a discipline role then he will perform it brilliantly but to truly utilise his genius you must let him express himself. I see him being a world class attacking player playing as the most advanced midfielder for the next few years, where he will win games by moments of genius.

His passing I believe on this forum is criminally underrated. He has every single type of pass in his locker. He will score in Champions League finals for Barcelona. As he ages he will drop deeper into midfield where he will be reinvented as one of the best midfielders in the world who will run games from the start to finish. He has already been running games for Liverpool. For years we have been a club with very little success, but it is a club of big profile with large media attention. I think any player who is the vocal point for Liverpool has the required character to play for Barcelona, with the expectations for trophies.

The whole transfer saga has been disappointing from him though. The fans sing his song every week, but I do not think that he would have done it for any other club but Barca. I don't think it's in Coutinho's character to refuse to play etc. like he has done, but in the strong position that we are in financially, it was probably the only feasible way he could have forced the transfer. We get a great fee for a great player, and will make tremendous profit. I think the panic and some outrage from Liverpool fans is also down to the fact that we have failed time and time again to replace our players like Luis. We Liverpool fans all love Suarez, he didn't strike like Coutinho so will probably always be loved a little more, but some idiots aside most Liverpool fans will eventually reflect and remember the magician as a true genius and grow to love but not adore him again.

It would have been nice for him to finish the season and help us progress as far as possible in the Champions League and place high in the league but I get why he'd want to force it through now. It's annoying how Liverpool always seem on the cusp of something good only to a lose a player. Our signings have been good under Klopp though, and the squad is quite strong now unlike other years. The fans who say he isn't our best player are talking out of their ass. He has genius no other player can and is our best. The best ever Brazilian in the Prem.

Great post. i have huge respect for Liverpool, i was rooting for them that season they came so close, Stevie G deserved a PL. I think you'll be fine if you can keep hold of Salah, with a few more transfers and Klopp at the helm I can actually see you challenging City next season, leap frogging United, Chelsea and Arsenal. Lemar would be a great buy and I'd love to see him in the PL instead of wasting his time in Ligue 1

ps. sorry for quoting such a long post

Coutinho's transfer to Barca confirmed and less than an hour in people have started a dick measuring contest between him and Iniesta.

Can we just enjoy the fact that we've managed to poach a player of his caliber in January for a day or two, shall we?

Welcome! And a great first post. It's always nice to have level headed and well spoken fans of other clubs contributing.

I really have nothing against Liverpool, in fact it's one of the sides I find myself pulling for when I watch the EPL as a neutral fan of the game.
