A lot of people think that Coutinho was brought in to replace Iniesta. Coutinho is at his best when he's playing in the front 3. So, the problem for any manager will now have is how to fit Dembele, Coutinho, Suarez, and Messi into a front 3, assuming that they are expected to start both Dembele and Coutinho. Tactically, Coutinho isn't good enough to play as a center midfielder against the best teams so the options are limited.

Coutinho for liverpool was as a central attacking mid. He was effective there. But forwards at liverpool work hard to win the ball back, and you need like a double 6 behind him. Barca doesn't have a similar squad for some better (messi) and some worse (eg kind of slow midfield)

The majority of his time at Liverpool he played on the left of the front 3. He did play as a center midfielder some in his last season at Liverpool but Klopp preferred him in the front 3 due to his inability to defend.

Not really. The last year and half, including 16-17 where he was the player of the year for them, he was more central, usually in midfield behind 3 forwards. Klopp desperately wanted to keep him for this role and they flirted with fekir and likely settled on shaqiri to help replace what they missed in couts as an attacking midfielder. He was rarely a winger or wide player for klopp, and it wasnt where he was best. But liverpool does get a lot more defensive duty from their forwards, why they can experiment with shaqiri as a free lancing attacking mid behind their front 3, exactly what they were doing with couts.

Can't see why he's want to stay and sit on the bench when he can go to just about any other team and be the main guy .

I'm gonna be pizzed if we lose Coutinho and Malcom but keep Valverde and Rakitic:(

His dream was to play here, he has to just wait out 6 months till we get a proper manager, no reason to leave when every other club is a step down.

I watch every Liverpool game and the majority of games under Klopp he was played in the front 3. Now, he wasn't strictly a "left winger" as he played in the "half-space" as Klopp calls it which gave him freedom to come in from the left and play more central. So, while you are partially correct, his starting position was on the left of the front 3.

That seems increasingly unlikely! All the lazy oldies (without any motivation left in them) seem to be pretty happy with him on the bench; by getting to start and play all the matches without extra effort!!

Think we should sell and get eriksen if Valverde stays...
I liked the look of Auoar as well from what I've seen of him, not with Valverde though.

Also do we have to pay all the add-ons if we sell like the dembele contract?
