8 - Pedri

One thing has to be said about him this season. He massively improved his stamina which was insanely bad.. he used to be done by minute 55. Now at least we can feel that he can play a full game with some consistency.

Together with machines Kounde, Raphinha and CB Cubarsi, they are the ones who have participated in every single game this season.

He is however 6th in most minutes played. Lewy and Iñigo also ahead of him there. But it's safe to say it's a huge improvement on his fitness. Hopefully he can get through these remaining two games without issues and then get some well deserved rest.

Would be incredible work from him and the fitness coaches if he'd be available all season, because some things must've changed compared to before.

Awhile back I posted a rumor of them doing tests on Pedri and learned that one of the reasons he was prone to getting injured was ironically him getting rested to much in a short amount of time.

I remember Mascherano at the end of his time with us talked about how he kept getting small muscle injuries because he wasn't consistently playing as much as he has. I guess some players need consistent workload.

Interesting. Missed your original post.

Guess there was a reason why Koeman played Pedri very frequently
Koeman knew he was someone that needed a consistent workload.

I also get Xavi's point of view that maybe his minutes needed to be handled differently because he was still a young guy adjusting to top level football.

But it turns out it seems like Flick/Koeman ended up being correct at least so far.

We'll see if he will survive this season without serious injuries.

He had run of 15-20 games before and then he was out for 3 months. It's not like he was getting injured every second game.

And while under Koeman he had played all but last league game in 20/21 season he was often subbed out and also came off the bench in 9 games. What really fecked him up imo was playing in the Olympics 2021.

Feck RFEF and DLF.

A bit OT but I've read Maria Tikas's article about Salma Paraluello yesterday (will link it later to the FCB Femeni thread for anyone interested). Club had to hold her out for first 4 months of this season because she was overplayed in the Olympics and felt pain in her knee. She already had torn ACL in 2021 while playing for Villarreal. Was also a sprinter (quite good one too) at that time but later focused fully on football.

To prevent possible injuries club took care of her and she was heavily rotated - played only 55% of available minutes despite being a starter last season but OTOH 92% for Spain last summer.

Again, feck RFEF.

Great half from him... at least someone is doing something
The team is doing well other than the attack which is disastrous. Lamine and Rapha trying something but not their best level for sure. Lewa and Olmo especially holding us back too much.

Best player by a country mile, its as if he is playing together with amateurs, that big difference is it between him and the rest.
