Neymar, Suarez and Messi don't have to defend in their national teams. I fear they wouldn't be up to the task of heavy pressing again, which we will probably need in order to beat the top teams in Europe, since we can't drop deep because our defenders don't exactly shine in those situations. With Henry-Messi-Eto'o, that was less of an issue, because we actually had height at the back. Right now, any cross could kill us, because Alves, Masch and Alba can't be expected to win headers, unlike the defenders in the HME-times. I hope Lucho can instill the necessary pressing-discipline again. Maybe I'm overthinking it, but I'm still worried about our defensive solidity.

I don't know about the national team, but in Liverpool Suarez is the one who starts the pressing, whilst Sturrdige doesn't do much, he's a leader, if he starts doing it, I imagine others will follow (Neymar).

And on your defence issue, everyone here knows that, but Masch isn't playing defence anymore, and Alves could be leaving next season; so if we sign a CB like promised we would have 2 tall CB's, and maybe a taller RB; plus having Busi and Rakitić in midfield will help a lot with the height issue.
