yup, Lets teams quadruple mark messi and let ney and suarez stroll freee or vice versa.
I don't know if it'll look as easy as it sounds, but the opposing sides won't handle marking Iniesta, Messi, Neymar and Suarez at once :D

But they won't be able to focus on all of them at once. Messi, Suarez and Neymar are very mobile. One of them is eventually going to sneak through even the tightest defense given we get the ball moving quickly.

No team 'quadruple marks' Messi. They barely even man mark him.

What teams have figured out is the best way to stack men in the areas that Messi wants to get into and close him quickly when he gets it.

Personally think to combat that and give Messi and the other attackers more time space Lucho needs -

1. Move ball quicker and wider earlier to players in space.
2. Players other than Meesi occupying CBs more.
3. Messi needs to be told to move more off the ball and not make it easier for opposition by drifting about and allowing himself to be close down so easily.

Well said jamdav. Now that we have Mathieu and a new coach I think our defence is actually very solid. Our main problem will be teams that defend deep and in numbers like Atletico.

I agree with you Jam. i was just oversimplifying it. Also, we need 4)clinical finishing.

Ye, you could see that in WC. First games other teams put 2-3 players on him, but when they noticed Messi didnt move much off the ball. They left him alone and rather closed of the areas he liked running into.
That requires much less defenders to do.
And as said, he has to be told to run more of the ball, or be benched, thats simple facts. Movement of the ball is 100 times more important then movement with the ball.

I agree with Jam, but I'd like to add to his #1 point. Don't just move the ball quicker and wider but also move it forward as opposed to always making the safe pass backwards to maintain possession. So many times over the last year or so while watching both Barca and Spain there is a pass available up the field but they choose to go back.
