note: there's no timing for the announcement of cas' decision on suarez, could be today, but most likely some days after hearing #fcblive

The hearing lasted 5 hours
He was probably standing there and telling 'em how tasteful Chiellini's shoulder was.

Even Oscar Pistorius trial lasted less than 5 hours yesterday

He will know when the TAS will make it official, publicly.
Thanks.

Another question. What will happen if their decision is to remove the ban in its entirity (yes I know this is unlikely)? Suarez has already been banned for more than a month. Would he, Barcelona or Uruguay get some sort of compensation in this scenario? I mean, if their decision is the ban was unfair he still lost a match in the world cup (perhaps more) and has lost several weeks of preseason with Barca because of it.

In this (absurd) scenario, it's tricky. Imagine Legia wins at CAS regarding the expulsion from CL. UEFA can't put them back in the competition just like that.

Ideally, evey ban FIFA/UEFA dictates should wait for it to be approved by CAS first, since most cases end up there anyway. Why would you execute a decision that is not definitive, and make yourself liable? But FIFA/UEFA are stupid.

Official FIFpro statement

As Luis Suarez faces the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland to appeal the sanctions imposed on him by FIFA's Disciplinary Committee, FIFPro has prepared the following statement:

FIFPro, the World Footballers' Association, agrees a sanction is needed. The question, however, is whether the combination of sanctions that FIFA imposed on the player is an appropriate way to deal with the case.

That Luis Suarez has been trialed and vilified in public, ever since the incident, is a sanction in itself. On the other hand, it has been remarkable to see the response from his fellow professionals and the victim himself, Giorgio Chiellini. Many agree the sanctions are excessive. This is an important signal for the CAS panel to consider.

The sanctions are a disproportionate response to the offence. Especially the four-month ban from all football-related activity, which is unfair for Suarez as it infringes his right to work at club level.

In the international arena, where the offence was committed, a nine-match ban for Uruguay is also too strong as it effectively equates to a two-year sanction.

FIFPro states the educative nature of the sanction mentioned by FIFA in the ruling can be much better achieved by making it partially conditional, including the obligation for Luis Suarez to receive treatment.

This can be applied on the number of matches but also on the period of the ban. The FIFA appeals committee missed an opportunity to take this into account. FIFPro expects that CAS will respect these assumptions

CAS dont have the time to babysit every UEFA and FIFA decision. Everything would move really slowly if every sport governing body would decide to wait for CAS to 'approve' it which is not how it even works.

FIFA and UEFA are not stupid for not doing something which never can work lol.

If that is true, thats good.

Doesnt qualification games count as official Uruguay games towards the 9 game ban?
Although, maybe those games are spread out over 2 years..

I do however think he should get punished somehow, otherwise it will just become a greenlight to do it again.
