Meste (vice president): "Luis Suarez had a release clause at Liverpool of £75M. After negotiations, we in the end paid £65M."

Official: Barcelona have paid Liverpool 81M for Uruguayan forward Luis Suarez (£65M), his buyout clause is 200M

Barca confirm Suarez's release clause was £75m but claim they paid £65m. Liverpool insist it was £75m. Anyone seen the receipt?!

This nonsense is why it would be much better for everyone if there was transparency over transfer fees.

there's no delusion about it. every news outlet reported 75m and there was no reason to lower from the buyout clause. wouldn't be the first time barca lied about a transfer fee either.

If it is really true liverpool would have come with the real transfer fee right away. "news outlets" that is what you believe in? They also said suarez release clause was 100M. Now please do tell me it is also wrong. And that neymar deal was a complicated deal. They did not want to share how much money they had to pay for 3rd party members. In this case there is nothing complicated like that.

liverpool have nothing to prove. 65m or 75m it doesn't matter. it's barca who have to prove they got a bargain and dodge FFP.

the 75m clasuse was reported as early as oct 2013 when his new contract was signed

You could also argue that if the fee was not 75 million than Barca could come out with the real transfer fee right away too..Liverpool have nothing to gain by revealing that they just received 75 million when they were themselves trying to get deals done...

Duh!!.. We did not pay the release clause. We payed 10 less. That biting incident cost liverpool that money. As simple as that. If you want to believe those english tabloids i won't stop you.

I am sorry to say this but that statement applies to you not the one who believes in an official statement rather than some tony fucking barret. And that tony barret you want to believe said suarez release clause was £100m. What made him change his mind?

k m8. suarez went for 10m less than his release clause even though he claimed there were offers from other clubs who undoubtable paid 75m but liverpool sold to barca because they like barca and want to be friends.

Well apparently the 65 million figure was made by Barca official so I should take that comment back....What other clubs were interested in Suarez and what was Barca's motivation to pay the release clause right now instead of waiting till january? and I don't think FFP considers public statements when checking a club's account....

Barca has nothing at all to fear from FFP, they're well below the limit. Has Liverpool officially announced any figure?

I'll believe the 75 million pounds figure if an official statement from Liverpool states that the price was 75 million pounds. Until then, it's 80 million euros.

The couldn't lie surely? Mestre said that Liverpool dropped the fee to 65 million pounds after good work from our negotiatiors and the players' effort...

Liverpool would've already came up and denied it if not true.
