9 - Robert Lewandowski

Fuck, I actually like him under Flick. And he is not nearly as immobile as is being made out here.

When Flick gets a top 9, we will be incredible.

Here hoping Deco does he due diligence and doesn't run to Mendes now we have a little manoeuvability in the market.

I hear here retrospective talk about ETO, Villa...more than once.
What's the point? Might as well talk about Raul, Butragenio or Ian Rush.
There's always this talk about acquiring someone else. Younger. Faster. More efficient. Not injury prone...Better.
Sure. Go for it!
IF IT WERE ONLY THAT EASY...
gimme a name or two that everyone agrees on.
Crickets chirping....
Hardly anyone available out there.

And those new players won't even outscore the worst version of RL9.

He makes goalscoring look so easy that people take it for granted.

Nah most strikers with proper finishing ability will be able to replicate his 24/25 stats, maybe even do better

The number of opportunities a striker gets in Flick's system is just too big, especially with all the creativity present in this Barca side

Lewy also has, because of his age, almost entirely excluded the running behind defence from his goal catalogue. Ferran scored one like that in first 2 minutes against Valencia. A younger striker would also add that to the goal tally.

That manifested itself more than once in the past. BVB had to wait a few long seasons until they acquired Haaland. Bayern too, Mane - still his in his prime, straight from Klopp's Liverpool could not fit in Lewa's shoes, they had to dig deeper in their pockets to get Kane to give them a worthy Lewandowski's semblance.
Looks like Lewandowski is always 'replacable' but the problem is the replacements are hard to find.

Look at it differently, I bet that if Ferran was in Lewandowski's place, Fermin wouldn't have scored. Why? Because he would have simply bounced the ball - pay attention to Lewandowski's behavior, being in the air and feeling that he himself wouldn't do anything with this pass, he let go and bowed his head so that the ball wouldn't touch him - thanks to that Fermin scored a goal. It seems like nothing, but how important the behavior of the striker is.

If he is gone after this season and Flick stays on, his offensive style will need to be tweaked as it requires an omnipresent target man, not false 9. It is vastly overseen how Lewandowski's off the ball play factors in, in terms of absorbing the opponent defensive resources. The 2nd goal by López, might have not been scored had it been not for Lewandowski providing wider target area ...with a false 9, you might not have seen two potential recipients of Pedri's pass but just one which López alone might have not handled because more defensive assets would have been directed at him in that penalty box area.
Intricacies like that are often overlooked in the big picture.
