9 - Robert Lewandowski

The greatest striker to ever play the game. If he was Brazilian/Argentine/Spanish/German, it wouldn't even be a debate.

Your favourite racist/injury prone/pedo striker doesn't come close to him. Keep crying.

There is probably some truth to this with him not getting Ballon D'or in 2020, but let's put this kind of thing aside though. He's one of the few Polish players that has reached this level. What matters is how he and Barcelona are playing now, and we still have the whole season left. South American/Spanish players getting more recognition is just how the market works, and there is a much bigger market in that regard.

As I said earlier, I am not surprised that he scores goals, I am pleased and surprised that at this age he works a lot without the ball.

Basically, the way I see it, Barcelona and Lewandowski is now, what Bayern and Lewandowski was in 2020...common denominator is Herr Flick.

This was my point. Players from traditional Football powerhouse nations get more recognition than they deserve.
Yeah that is obviously true too. It sucks, I agree. Salah is another victim of it and some others.

However, I think you went a bit overboard with the excitement of the evening, saying he's the best striker ever. With all due respect, that is fanboy talk. R9 was clearly better as anyone who saw him in his prime will attest to. It's not because he was Brazilian, he was just a phenomenon.

I grant you that he measures up well to just about any other striker, though. The biggest compliment I can give Lewa is that he doesn't seem that much worse (if at all) to Marco Van Basten to me. I do still prefer Benzema and Suarez (different types of players) but if anyone thought Lewa was the best striker since R9 I wouldn't complain.

You'd rather pay to watch R9 play but RL9 is the superior goalscorer. Eye test vs Aggregate statistics

It's a different era, though. Goalscoring has exploded for most players. The growing gap between the elite teams and the lesser teams has led to more blowouts and more lopsided leagues (as Bayern, Juve, City, even Celtic dominance will attest to).

If R9 was playing in C Ronaldo's RM or Messi or Lewa's Barcelona, he'd score a ton of goals too. I know R9 played in great teams but they were never as hyper focused on scoring or as professional as now.

As you probably know about me I don't correlate stats with quality. I guess you could argue Lewandowski is the superior scorer, but only in the context of the era he plays in. Ditto Ibra, Benzema etc.

As a matter of fact Lato was just as lethal as RL9 but as quick as Mbbape. Problem was he was behind the iron curtain and player transfer market was much slimmer than what it is now...RL9 wins the popularity contest but to me the greatest Footballer of Poland was Zbigniew Boniek...my hero of the 80s. RL9 is 2nd...hands down.

Yeah there's been other wonderful Polish players when they had their golden era in the 70s/80s.
The Polish team from the 70s-80s was quite renowned, players like Boniek, Lato, Lubanski were all world class. Deyna was considered the Polish Cruyff and even got Ballon D'or podium in 1974 behind Cruyff himself and Beckenbauer. They won olympic gold and bronze medals in 2 World Cups(1974 and 1982). I suspect that many of them didnt get to play for huge European teams(except Boniek) because of communism, just like with the rest of Eastern European footballers.
