He wanted to stay at Bayern but they're not stupid or desperate enough to offer him a new three year contract, while we are. It's about money as it is with Mane leaving Pool.
And dude signed a contract, shouldn't be crybabying if Bayern want to keep him.
Dude signed a contract, believing he would be Bayern's priority and getting the respect a top scorer and the team's best player for the last 8 years deserves from his club. Or at least the common courtesy of telling him 'look we're looking to replace you, so we're not prepared to offer you an extension at this time.'
It's not about money, but it's not about the duration of the contract either. It's about respect, or in this case lack there of. Fact is, Bayern extended contracts of Muller and other high profile older players in the last 6-12 months, but completely ignored Lewa all throughout last season, because they were genuinely after Haaland. But when they got priced out of that deal, they wanted to act like nothing happened and maybe even come back to the table and negotiate a one year extension with Lewa, probably just to give themselves enough time to get in Schick or whoever else they would go after, this or next summer.
But Lewa got hurt by their insignificance and the club's shitty attitude towards him in the last 6 months, so by April or May, Lewa had already decided he wanted to leave. Plus he knows this is his last chance of actually challenging himself outside of the Bundesliga (don't forget his time in Dortmund, so he played in that league basically his whole career) while still playing for a top club and actually challenging for the biggest trophies.
Bayern are shameless cunts, and nothing else. Acting like a privileged kid about to lose his favourite toy after tossing it aside for one year, because they were after a new shiny toy in the mean time. And acting this is about money and some Bayern higher ups even trash talking Barca in the last few weeks, 'not getting' why Lewa would want to leave 'their great and well run club to join this mess' a.k.a their mickey mouse Bayern liga and actually challenge himself for a couple years he has left on the highest level.
Not to mention, imagine holding out for 40 or even 50M for Lewa, but on the other hand low balling Liverpool for Mane and offering just 21M just days ago! Extremely glad that Liverpool did exactly the same thing Bayern is doing and asked for 50M for Mane, a little taste of their own medicine for those Bavarian cunts. Not to mention Mane is actually almost 4 years younger than Lewa! There's no world where an almost 34 year old Lewa is worth more than 30 year old Mane, especially with both of them with just 1 year remaining on their current deals.
And considering how strong Lewa's comments have been (and are only getting stronger by the day), I could actually see him not attend their preseason, even if the deal isn't done yet at that point. Right now he seems to be absolutely determined not to return to Germany, not even just for a few days. Even talked about already having a house in Spain and learning the language, and his wife also very much wanting to change the scenery and getting out of Germany.
As a last resort, I do see him and his agent actually triggering that 'article 17 rule' or something, when he can basically rescind the contract and Barca would only have to pay 25M in damages or something like that (I'm not sure how exactly that rule works, but I have read a little about what would happen in that case, and it's something like this). So by holding out for 40 or even 50M, Bayern could actually lose him for 7M less than what our initial offer was.
