9 - Samuel Eto'o

Is it terrible if I agree with you both?
You have to mix it up when your team is not only called the best team in the world, but also end up winning everything one season. Barcelona did that, and amazingly you could argue the next season they where even better. Very lucky 2009, unlucky 2010, thats the difference in titles right there.
At the same time, no, Eto didnt get the threatment he deserved.

The actual transfers are a joke, both the eto+$$$$ -> zlatan and the zlatan -> $, but thats a more complicated subject (for me atleast).

___

Just searched this thread up to celebrate the guy for 3 well taken goals. I dont know if its possible but I think he has gotten even faster, and he seems to use his speed even better and more controlled. The first and second touches today was either lucky or simply a perfect display of knowing your own speed.

Bazinga!
Pep also praised Chygrynskiy after every performance he made. There's a paper trail for that as well.
Pep also didn't talk about Ibra's character when clearly he dismissed him because of it (along with his agent) Unfortunately, there is no paper trail for that, so it probably doesn't exist?

He did, and he used almost the exact same words as he did with Eto'o (quoted by FCBarca above, I had no idea...)

I think I know why, I just hope nobody kills me for this 'blasphemy' - they're both better strikers.
I can hear the mob coming... :)

its because many people are too idiotic to realise that messi is the finisher of this team whilst eto'o and ibra are the finishers of their respective teams hence even when playing for crappier european teams than us, they still manage to get so many goals.

eto'o was let go because pep wanted messi to be the focal point of the finisher and ibra was necessarily there to allow for messi's goal haul.

exactly.

messi is the focal point of the attack and villa recognises this.

while he is there to score lots, he's not our #1 option when we attack, he's #2.

tbh that's why I thought zlatan would succeed at barca, because he's as happy assisting as he is scoring. so I figured, footballistically, this guy was a perfect fit. but he's an arrogant douchebag who thought he was on messi's level and deserved the same treatment, so that fucked that up.

yeh but one really needs to credit ibra for the rise of pedro. he singlehandedly allowed pedro to be that confident attacker that he is.

But it's fairly well documented that Pep didn't sign off on Cheesuz being sold back...That came from above

Ibra didn't talk about his character but it was plainly implied as it was with Samu...It merely makes the money argument less credible, for me

If Pep wanted to make Messi a focal point/goalscorer why he got Ibra then who only stands at the center and takes up space where Messi would be surging. It's rubbish. Just as those lengthy explanations how Ibra is making new system work copied from blogs last season.

Maybe you overlooked (I did) that Zlatan is a similair breed to Messi, in that they both need that enormous freedom to figure out for themselves what path they want to run in, where they want to help, and what is about to happen. I see even Messi, dispite his incredible consistance, often gets lost in games when he doesnt have that freedom.

That probably has a lot to do with ego, a quality he shares with Eto, and one I think is pretty normal for a striker. Zlatans ego probably has tougher to deal with it because he has proven he is actually not a very good striker without the freedom. Eto performed better in an "invisible" role (didnt distrupt the flow around him).
It doesnt have much to do with "douchebag" however. If you´d ask Pep over a friendly cup of coffe, maybe he´d say they shared that quality too, though.

I can see the situation beeing pretty similar in a lot of ways with Zlatan and Eto, when it comes to Pep and personal issues. I think its probable he held them both on a similair leesh, and that they both questioned that they didnt get more room. Maybe Eto wanted freedom for what he accomplished, and Zlatan wanted freedom to actually get things done, but they where both in a situation where they didnt seem to understand why Pep didnt give it to them. And in both situation Pep seems to have dealt with it pretty quietly, and then suddenly let something slip to the press instead, both times insinuating that something doesnt click whith the personalities.

And then, both Eto and Zlatan went to Serie A eager to prove they where worth what they didnt get from Pep. I distincly remember a quote from Eto, where he after the transfer pretty randomly proclaimed "Zlatan is not better than me..". Some days ago, Zlatan said something along the lines "Im going to prove myself to the whole f*cking world", though I might have added the f*cking.

Unbelievable striker-brilliant. Pep is a useless manager when it comes to handling BIG personalities. He couldnt handle Ibra(understandable but stil......)had difficulties with Eto and shipped him off. Who next-Villa?? Part of being a good manager is learning how to deal with different personalities. Not every pl,ayer is going to be a humble, diffident nice guy. Especially when they're on 100K a week. Seriously I know Pep has won us trophies but he still has a lot to learn as a manager and he doesnt seem to be a quick learner. No plan for the parked bus and no ability to handle difficult players.

Eto should never have left and especially for the deal with Ibra. I remember people saying that Eto was only scoring because of the service he received from Xavi, Iniesta etc. However he seems to be doing great at Inter. His pace still seems to be there and the finishing is still sharp.
