The problem is barca pays it's players very high salaries and only tries to sell them when they are not good enough to be on the bench anymore. And the players don't want to leave their huge paychecks and settle for low pay offered by midrange clubs. Ofcourse we can sell players for decent amount like cesc and alexis but that was to sign Suarez. If we have to buy someone like that then we would sell for good amounts.
While Real madrid transfer policy is completely different. They sign them at 23-24 and give them one or two seasons to see if they shine. And sell them for a large amount again to recover the cost if it was a failed transfer. Major of our recent transfers are past 26 age.

Yeah, it's tempting to get him out of the club as soon as possible, but I hope we don't cave to his demands. If he's not willing to be flexible and work with us to find the best solution for him, us, and his next club, then we should let him know we'll honor the last year of his contract, but he won't be registered as a player. He'll watch all the games from home, and after a full year of not playing he'll be free to look for a new club at the age of 32.
Hopefully, these comments are just posturing from his agent though.
