Adrien Rabiot

There is one major difference here. Suarez's probles were on-pitch disciplinary problems. Rabiot's problems are off-pitch problems. The last guy with this kind of problems here was Neymar and we all know how that ended.

With us pocketing 222 mil? :D

The club should be smart and talk with the player through it. Which they, I'm sure, will do if we end up signing him.

Should do that before signing him. But, I believe, this is very hard to do with the charming lady named Veronique.

All of that said, signing him now with Frenkie secured and Alena doing well, is a much lower risk than it was before. Plus, we can lowball him, since we are in no desperate need for a midfielder.

Vidal has a few bad games (as did the rest of the team) and he became a headless chicken that is unwanted all of sudden?

Rabiot can't play the Vidal and Rakitic role well. He is not a good defensive midfielder and he doesn't offer the kind of runs that Vidal often does into the box and he rarely scores the kind of goals that Vidal and Rakitic does (headers for Vidal and from just barely outside the penalty box and in front of the goal for both Vidal and Rakitic).

He is too full of himself, too much of a problem, a time bomb with his greedy mother agent.

I'd only open to getting him if he accepts lowered salary (not 10m a year) and bench role.

Of course if he comes to barca he will have to know he will have to compete and play well to hold down a starters spot. He will know there is FDJ & arthur as long term fixtures plus no less than one of busi or rakitic + likely vidal (who i dont know we could move him anyway).

He would know exactly what the situation would be here and he can take on that challenge to be world class at barca l, or not. But if you want to prove your club and france doubters wrong, succeeding at barcelona would be the biggest possible egg on their faces.

The problem here is that you can't rely on Rabiot being a long-term solution in our midfield. If we sign him, he is a potential ticking timebomb. You can never know when he decides to leave and we'll be left scrambling again, as we did with Neymar.

Tbh I would be ok with him if he leaves like Neymar. We are getting him for free, if he becomes a fixture in the starting eleven as long as he plays for us, that itself is worth the effort.

As I said, the only downside I see is La masia players getting much lesser playtime.

Le Parisien and Marca says that he is coming.
Plus, that he will play at Rakitic's position, which some of us predicted long time ago (that he is viewed by the staff as a similar profile to Rakitic, and that the technical staff will look for that type of a footballer in the future to occupy one spot in midfield).

Rakitic will leave in the summer.

The Barcelona related journalists seem to believe this comes from the Rabiot camp using Barca's name to get a better deal elsewhere.

Ok, but:
https://www.football-espana.net/76845/bayern-munich-out-race-psgs-adrien-rabiot

Bayern Munich are ‘out of the race’ to sign Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot, a reported transfer target for Barcelona.

The 23-year-old is out of contract at the French champions in June and has been linked with several top European clubs, including the Blaugrana.

Bild say the Bavarian club are no longer interested in a deal, having previously proposed a swap deal with Javi Martinez – who has also been linked with a return to Athletic Bilbao.

The Frenchman’s contractual situation had led to reports that he could leave the French capital in a cut-price deal this January, but such a move never materialised.

Barca were strongly linked to Rabiot this summer but instead signed Arthur Melo and Arturo Vidal to replace the outgoing Andres Iniesta and Paulinho, while they have also agreed a deal for Ajax’s Frenkie de Jong this summer.

Juventus – who have agreed a deal with Aaron Ramsey for a free transfer this summer – have also been strongly linked to the Frenchman.

And:

PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot will sign for Barcelona this summer according to reports in French media this weekend.

The 23 year-old has been linked with a move to Ernesto Valverde's side all season, after his relationship with the French side and current boss Thomas Tuchel broke down.

He is currently exiled from the first team after declining a contract offer from the Ligue 1 side, and he is now available to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.

La Parisien claims that a source close to the French international has confirmed that a deal is already in place with the defending La Liga champions, including salary and a signing on fee.

Rabiot is free to negotiate with clubs as he is into the the final six months of his contract, but he will remain in Paris until June.

Let's remove Barca's glasses or love/hate towards Rabiot and let's check all options:
1. Psg, he don't want to stay there and they have kicked him out of a team.
He is free to go wherever he wants.
And he will probably get more money elsewhere since:
1) at Psg, he can get "only" wages
2) at a new club, he will get similar wages plus probably 10-ish M sign on fee

2. Barcelona: reports are saying for Months that he is our player. Ok, some reports said that we have cooled down lately and that we have lost a contact with him...
But, let's go further:
3. Bayern, gave up from him. Is it because of Barca's deal?
4. Tottenham, there is no way that they will offer as much as Barca
5. Juve: they won't offer that much and they have just signed Ramsey on a free transfer

So, if you look at it from the "outside", Barca is the only option, plus it was reported before a New year that we have an agreement with him.
This report says that we have agreed on a wage and sign on fee.
Since we don't have to agree on a transfer fee since he is coming for free, more or less, there is nothing more to agree about...

On the other hand, there is always an option that Barca and our media are not allowed to say that we agreed everything with Rabiot, because Psg don't like us, and it is clear that we had a deal with Rabiot way before January 1st, so it is wise to "act" as if we negotiated with him now, in February or March so that salty Psg can't report us.

In short:
1. Rabiot burned all bridges with Psg
2. Bayern is out
3. other big clubs are not after him
4. Barca is the biggest club after him
5. nobody will pay him as much as we will
6. the only other options are: Tottenham for less money and a way weaker club
7. maybe Juventus for less money

Calciomercato even says that we agreed on wages, sign on fee and a sporting project, but the deal isn't signed yet:
Adrien Rabiot's move to Barcelona has been one of the transfer market telenovelas of the last couple of months but now it seems that its end could be approaching.

As reported by Le Parisien, the French midfielder, who will not renew his contract with PSG, has agreed on everything with Barcelona: salary, signing bonus and sports project.

However, the French source points out that the player, free to commit with any club for the future since January 1, has not yet signed anything. This information comes reportedly directly from Rabiot's environment. "But when Adrien will want to press the button, things will be resolved," the sources say.

Chelsea might be interested in him too. Let's see. Perhaps Barca will offer Rabiot a much lesser deal since his mom screwed up the deal they had initially. The club should lowball him as much as possible IMO as a punishment for their bush league tactics.

No guaranteed starting spot either and if he starts sulking and whining he'll get booted right out.

I for one am completely indifferent towards Rabiot. Getting him and not Frenkie would have been a hard pill to swallow. Now I dont really mind either way. Maybe leaning towards not getting him as I dont think Barcelona should have a cm like him (personal preference). At least not as a starter, which he would very likely be.

I don't mean anything bad, but you are biased.

We don't know what is happening behind the curtains and which stories are true.
On the other hand, did any of our fans ever suggest that we should lowball Frenkie or De Light?
No.
Do you know why?
= because people like those two a lot and see them as Barca's DNA players.

Frenkie flirted with Psg and Barca.
And reports said that he agreed everything with Psg in December.
With your logic, we should have said: fuck you, Frenkie, you just want more money.
But we didn't.
Instead, we offered even more, and paid everything what his agent asked for (wages, sign on fee, a commission for an agent).

About De Light, his agent is asking around 10M for himself.
Now, shouldn't we say: fuck you, both De Light and your agent...
But we won't do that.
In fact, we'll probably bend down and pay whatever it takes, 80-90M transfer fee, crazy wages for a 18 years old kid, a sign on fee, and a crazy commission for his rat agent.

Do you see people on this forum saying: we should lowball De Light and we shouldn't bend down to his rat agent?
Honestly, is there THAT MUCH difference between Rabiot's, Frenkie's and De Light's approach?
All of them wanted as much money possible for their club, for their wages, sign on fee and a money for their agent (or Rabiot's mom in this case).

Look, I like Rabiot, you don't.
But at the end of the day, when you remove bias, Rabiot is really not THAT MUCH worse in negotiating than Frenkie and De Light.
I mean, you said that Rabiot is using us to get a better deal.
And again, Frenkie agreed everything with Psg before a New Year. Wasn't that a dickish move from him also, since... you know, he loves Barca, only Barca, it is not about money for him and similar excuses?
Maybe he used Psg only to milk us and to force us to go 100% in, since we were scared to lose him?
Is that a nice and humble move from him, tbf?

Well, to be fair... Rabiot is simply not a player to get too excited about. Hes pretty good at everything, but just doesnt look very special. He would be a great squad player though (and maybe even a starter in the mold of Rakitic - very good, just not up there with the very best).

Everything right now looks more like Rabiot's wishful thinking, talking about how great things WERE before we signed De Jong. There is no indication that our club still wants him TODAY.

Bayern is out not necessarily because they couldn't or didn't want to match our offer, it could simply be because they are fed up with his demand (salary among other things) and decided to back out.

In the end he could be a club-less player, which I'd love to see happening. That will teach him and his mother a lesson that he is not as great as he thinks he is.

Why would he wait till mid-February to announce the deal? Seems weird. I know you said, it would be better to announce later but that's kind of weak excuse.
