Inter didn't want to pay cash, they offered Bordeaux some kind of shady "paying loan with an option to buy", mid season. Bordeaux told them to fuck off (and they deserved it). They still didn't want to pay cash in august (so there was no way Malcom was going to go play for them), but Rome agreed.
And there are several versions about what happened with Rome and Barcelona this summer. One version is that Bordeaux fucked Rome over because Barcelona paid slightly more. The other version is that Malcom and his agents used Rome to get Barcelona to make a move, and that they're the ones who asked Bordeaux to say no to Roma and sell to Barca instead.
