So it seems rumors of Benfica going full force for the transfer if they made the CL knockouts were true. Hopefully he proves worthy enough to warrant them using him in the R16. Would probably be more entertaining to see how he does in that setting than Chelsea vs PSG.

No, he rejected because the board tried to force him to sign it by telling him in the last hours of deadline day, without telling him anything beforehand.

Loads of players get told last minute of deals available.

That is no reason to turn down loan and he effectively just fucked any chance he had at Barca by doing it.

Of course its a reason. Why would a player with an expiring contract agree to go on loan at the last minute in the year that it is expiring without it being renewed. The only time it happens is when the player is not returning to the parent club.Furthermore, several players have rejected loans in the past including this forum's favorite Sergi Roberto. They aren't cattle and the cant just be shipped off wherever without being consulted. What kind of future planning doesn't involve the actual player ffs.

In most cases those players are more aware of this clubs than fans ,May be he doesn't see it as a good opportunity for him ,may be he see it as a bad fit for him as a player
no one would want to go to loan to Levante to see himself on bench or not performing well and waste an opportunity to go to a club like Benfica (may be for even better salary) .
I mean

Obviously he has a right to play where he wants and he was given that decision and turned the Levante move down.

The club also have the right to make decisions on his future based on that.

The offer for Grimaldo came through on last day of transfer window, they offered him the choice to go and clearly wanted him to. He turned it down. No one was forced to do anything.

If he had the idea of not moving to Levante as he wanted Benfica move then thats up to him and dont blame anyone for situation.

The point is that there are several reasons why someone wouldn't just want to go to Levante at the drop of a hat. Its not even a stable club outside of the fact that they avoid relegation. Rubi is coaching them now but he wasn't at the time and its very possible he wont be next season either. The idea that a player should just go wherever the club wants on deadline day without any thought put into it doesn't resonate with me and the vast majority of players will feel that way as well. Especially if they have an expiring contract.

The contract only expires if Barca dont take up the extra year which they would probably be more likely to if he goes and perfoms well at a La Liga club.

You keep repeating this idea of the player having an option...of course he does and he did.

But spare me this idea of poor Grimaldo being sent to Levante as if staying to play third tier football is any better. Sometimes players need to take a risk and make a move they dont really fancy if it can progress their career. Not guaranteed it will but it would be a year better spent than in third tier surely.

They definitely want him for the CL then. They could have easily waited until the Summer to avoid that option if they wanted to.
