Not that I believe one bit that Arsenal will let him go, but it actually does make perfect sense getting someone like him or Martinez.
Piqué, Masch and Puyi are undisputed quality, and will easily cover the 2 cb positions with Bartra as backup. why add yet another exclusive cb to that? Buying someone who could cover both as cb AND for Busi (where we have absolutely no cover at the moment - no don't mention Masch, it's clear neither Pep nor Tito saw him as dm in our system). So yes, that's absolutely what we need.

Puyol more injured than not last season. Could barely play 2-3 games before getting injured.
Pique had the worst form of his life.
Mascherano is good, apart from some minor misstakes. Glad we have him.
Abidal is gone (could play both CB and LB superbly)

So we have 3 options for CB and one of them (Puyol) is old and gets injured very often.
That leaves us with 2. If another one gets injured (like last season) then we are in for some trouble.

A good CB like Subotic, Agger and so on will always be better than a converted DM. And since we are fully packed in the midfield, Song or Javi dont make any sense.

To buy a player that can cover both dm and cb aint that hard, but to find onde who can cover cb as GOOD as a quality CB aint as easy.

Puyol more injured than not? He played 44 games all in all. How does that add up?
Pique had a serious dip in form yes, but ended the season on a high, and had a very decent Euros. I have no worries about him.
You seem to completely disregard Bartra? The coaches seem to believe in him, and I bet he's a fine understudy for the 3 main cbs.

I still say we need a combined cb/cm way more than a true cb.

As many stated before, he's too often tactically naive and undisciplined, but has an undeniable all around talent and ability. He would add something different to the team, and would be great replacement for Keita in box to box and utility player role.
