I don't see how Alexis' deficiencies are justifiable by the team's recent dip in form. Except at the very moment, these two things usually have nothing to do with each other. Alexis has been bad the entire season. The team, on the other hand, has had the best start of the season in history. Alexis was terrible even when the team was doing incredibly well. So these more serious and fundamental flaws with the team (which do exist, I agree, and have just been well camouflaged for the better part of the season) don't really contribute to Alexis' bad performances in general. What he does bad is not really a result of teamplay, like, for example, when the midfield is inefficient because they have nobody to pass to in front. The things he does bad are problems on the individual level. His terrible finishing, frequent bad passing and embarrassing diving are there regardless of how the team is functioning as a unit at any given time.
On another note, what I love about Alexis and his workrate is his aggressiveness and his willingness to intercept the opposition's passes out of the blue and take possession of the ball in really dangerous areas. It's very unpredictable and useful to our attack. None of our other players really do this. When he's fresh, he really goes out of his way to get his hands (or should I say feet) on the ball. If he loses possession, he does his best to recover it, too. Anyways, I hope last night's game gives restores some of his confidence and puts him back on the right track.
