Rakitic would probably be underrated. Who knows how neymar and suarez would be viewed too. Both would probably not be considered the best attacking talents after Messi and Penaldo.

I have to agree with the assessment of Alexis during his time here- it was mostly dreadful. He scored a few great goals for us, but 99% of the time he was frustrating. Our system at the time forced him to stay wide on the RW and spread out the field, he is just not a good player when isolated. When he actually was able to be involved, his poor decision making made him mostly mess up the few chances he got. When he is more involved and given freedom, like at Arsenal, he makes a ton of dumb mistakes, but he gets to keep trying and eventually pulls something off because his talent allows him to do it. He was never going to be able to do that at Barca.

He messed up simple passes, or would actually beat his man then just trip on the ball. I appreciate the effort he gave when he was here, he was a warrior and always gave 100%- I will always respect him for that. I would have never opted to keep him though; I always thought we were stronger with Messi on the wing and a number 9 in the middle.

When Alexis is on a scoring streak, he is absolutely a top forward. At Barca, he was quite streaky, which included too many overly long non-scoring periods. He also had very, very good periods at Barca, particularly playing at home. Was he the best fit at Barca, playing with Neymar and Messi? No, all were too small, none were target men, Alexis is not at his best over in the right corner. The Trident fit together perfectly, Alexis is much better off at Arsenal. Good move for all.

Alexis is one of those players who looks a lot better live than he does on TV, even when he is not at his best offensively. His defense might be the best in the world at his position, seeing the effort he puts out is inspiring.
