Watching some of Suarez's misses, it's almost impossible not to mention these two in the same topic. They share some attributes, quite a few actually.
Alexis is the player whom I hated the most EVER in the last 10-15 years as Barca's fan.
(Other players who frustrated me the most were Fabio Rochemback, and somewhat Deco and Belletti).
So, don't take my posts too seriously about Alexis, because I just can't stand him, no matter how good/bad he plays sometimes.
But the thing is, Suarez just brings "something" which you can't measure in numbers like assists, passes, dribbles, goals, which Alexis was lacking.
It is some sort of connection with Ney and Messi, and how he is driving the opponents away and creating more spaces for Messi and Ney.
Again, you can't measure that in numbers and most of the people don't realize what he is doing until when we play without him and then we realize that something is missing and that suddenly both Messi and Ney have less spaces to score.
The same as how people think that Alves is poor and that he isn't doing anything on the field.
But when he is not on the field, suddenly something is missing on the right flank, and suddenly even Messi plays poorer and he has less spaces.
Or like how we all trashed Busi for Months, and we were not realizing HOW IMPORTANT his movement off the ball is.
Then he gets injured, Masch steps in and suddenly you see that Dmc Busi and Dmc Masch (for our way of playing and build up) are two different universes.
Imo, Alexis is not the man who could lead Barca to CL glory. He is just missing something "extremely special". He is the player for Arsenal and Liverpool, but just not good enough for Barca, Real or Bayern.
Not good enough in terms that he will add something special which will win us trophies.
He will score a crazy golazo, or two, or 10 of them, but overally, over 12 Months, his overall play is just not good enough for Barca.
On the other hand, crazy Suarez just has something in himself.
He wasn't scoring too well till the last few weeks, but still, he was improving a team a lot with his movement.
And before someone says that Alexis had an awesome movement. Well, he had a good workrate, especially when we lose the ball.
But his movement without the ball, when we have the ball, wasn't as smart or as fit for our team, as Suarez's movement.
Alexis was not creating spaces for Messi in the way how Suarez does.
So, forget the numbers, Suarez is just bringing our whole team/attacking trio to another level.
And Alexis didn't have "those" skills.
