Alexis Sanchez

He didn't perform well against Chelsea, both times. Went missing in the title decider also, when Liverpool lost the title at home. Surely you don't count 7th place United as a top team last season. Or Arsenal, who got beaten 6-0 by Chelsea. City and Chelsea were by far the best teams in the league along with Liverpool, and Suarez had sub par performances in all 4 games IMO.

Did you honestly watch Suarez vs Man City last year?

He was about the only player in the league last year that ripped Kompany to bits, he wasnt sub par against them at all.

Suarez and Alexis shouldn't be mentioned in the same topic, sorry.

That is really disrespectful towards Suarez :hooray:

I didn't, but that's not the point. Again, the discussion was about stats, and Suarez' stats dropped as well against the very best teams in the league. Not about his performances. Alexis didn't have a poor performance last night either.

Watching some of Suarez's misses, it's almost impossible not to mention these two in the same topic. They share some attributes, quite a few actually.

Alexis is the player whom I hated the most EVER in the last 10-15 years as Barca's fan.
(Other players who frustrated me the most were Fabio Rochemback, and somewhat Deco and Belletti).

So, don't take my posts too seriously about Alexis, because I just can't stand him, no matter how good/bad he plays sometimes.

But the thing is, Suarez just brings "something" which you can't measure in numbers like assists, passes, dribbles, goals, which Alexis was lacking.
It is some sort of connection with Ney and Messi, and how he is driving the opponents away and creating more spaces for Messi and Ney.

Again, you can't measure that in numbers and most of the people don't realize what he is doing until when we play without him and then we realize that something is missing and that suddenly both Messi and Ney have less spaces to score.

The same as how people think that Alves is poor and that he isn't doing anything on the field.
But when he is not on the field, suddenly something is missing on the right flank, and suddenly even Messi plays poorer and he has less spaces.

Or like how we all trashed Busi for Months, and we were not realizing HOW IMPORTANT his movement off the ball is.
Then he gets injured, Masch steps in and suddenly you see that Dmc Busi and Dmc Masch (for our way of playing and build up) are two different universes.

Imo, Alexis is not the man who could lead Barca to CL glory. He is just missing something "extremely special". He is the player for Arsenal and Liverpool, but just not good enough for Barca, Real or Bayern.
Not good enough in terms that he will add something special which will win us trophies.

He will score a crazy golazo, or two, or 10 of them, but overally, over 12 Months, his overall play is just not good enough for Barca.

On the other hand, crazy Suarez just has something in himself.
He wasn't scoring too well till the last few weeks, but still, he was improving a team a lot with his movement.
And before someone says that Alexis had an awesome movement. Well, he had a good workrate, especially when we lose the ball.
But his movement without the ball, when we have the ball, wasn't as smart or as fit for our team, as Suarez's movement.
Alexis was not creating spaces for Messi in the way how Suarez does.

So, forget the numbers, Suarez is just bringing our whole team/attacking trio to another level.
And Alexis didn't have "those" skills.

Sanchez may have not been the perfect fit for barca but i dont get the resounding hatred towards him? I dont know how people hated him or still hate him? Sanchez had some memorable moments here like in pretty much all the classicos especially that chip. affeley was still praised just cause of his assist. He is gone why still bash him for no reason? Suarez is doing good, sanchez is doing good and yet people still bash him even though he not with us anymore. I dont get it.

Suarez struggled at first but considering the circumstances it's irrelevant to use it against him. There's a reason why he's called El Pistolero and won the golden boot in two top leagues, Eredivisie and the Premier Leauge. Already scored more goals in CL for Barca than Alexis in three years too. There's nothing Alexis can be compared to Suarez at.

I hate comparing the two cause both are such different players, nice argument about the cl goals though, sanchez really was terrible in the cl, but in the league the goal chats not so much difference., sanchez still had more goals in la liga first season that suarez atm with 12. Took suarez 3 seasons at liverpool though to become a top goalscorer in premier league, sanchez already is on course to beat suarez total goals for liverpool during his first two season. Not to take anything away from suarez though, he really is the perfect fit for barca and you can tell he is going to be lethal and a key player, its just that some people sell sanchez"s time in barca short.

Suarez last year was special, easily the best player in the league. And a better season than alexis will ever produce, right now sanchez has had the better year, but Suarez is comfortably the better player.

Suarez 13 goals and 13 assists, goals against PSG and Man Shitty in the UCL, against Atleti in the league (or was it Copa? I forget)... in HALF a season being out of form, a bit out of shape, lacking team cohesion.

I think Suarez has actually had a better year. If we're going by 2015, Suarez by far.

The discussion was about stats. And Suarez had 0 goals and assists in 4 games against City and Chelsea. For the record, I don't count saved shots as an assist. Actually, many people on english forums noticed Suarez has built his stats on the back of scoring a lot in the easier games, see Norwich x2.
