All time XI

It's hard to make a fist XI, but this is what I picked for now. I decided to include 3 players for each position because it would be unfair to name just 11 players.

Not 100% decided tho. Feel free to cuss me out :zidane:

I'm sorry but Pele HAS TO START.

R9's career doesn't even remotely come close to Pele.

Pele is arguably the GOAT and a team without him can't be taken seriously.

R9 is a nostalgia merchant compared to Pele.

This is where we agree to disagree. Pele is undoubtedly an ambassador of the sport and will forever be one of the greats, but I don't think he is the GOAT. He was fortunate enough to be part of some stellar teams(had the likes of Garrincha, Jairzinho, Rivellino, Carlos Alberto, Gerson, Djalma&Nilton Santos also). Most of the old people talk about that 70s Brazil team and it wasn't just Pele... There's also some doubts regarding his total number of goals scored and how relevant they were.
He even omitted Garrincha and Jairzinho from his top 100, the top scorers of the 1962 and 1970 WCs respectively😐

Don't forget that Ronaldo o Fenomeno murdered the Brazilian league at barely 17, scoring 34 goals in 34 games. He then went to the Netherlands and repeated the feat(in a much competitive league)aged 18 years old, just to join Barca at 19 years old and have one of the best individual seasons in history of football. All this at 19! This season would award him the Ballon D'or, but sadly he would depart us. Apparently he didn't want to leave Barca just yet:

“If the club didn’t value me as I thought they should, then the decision wasn’t in my hands. I would have liked to have stayed, but it wasn’t up to me.”

At Inter he was the best player in the world by far, until he suffered one of the worst injuries in football. I find it incredible how he recovered after that injury and won Brazil the World Cup in 2002. Don't forget that he could've won the 1998 aswell, and with the medal from 1994 that would make it 3 World Cups, just like Pele.

Ronaldo is one of those players that leaves me thinking, what would have been if not for that injury? He had everything, speed, technique and strength. Perhaps that kind of body was not sustainable long term, but I can't say for sure. Even with so many injuries he still achieved a lot in football. For me he is the best number 9 of all time.

Just put Pele in ahead of the Penalty Guy and the team cooks :benitez:

You can't have an all time XI without Messi, Pele, Maradona, Maldini, Beckenbauer.

Everyone else is debatable or close to their rivals.

Which club has the best all time xi? If you could only have the version of the player that played for the club at the specific time. e.g. AC Milan couldn't put prime Ronaldinho in their all time xi they'd have to take the version they had (probably wouldn't make their all time xi tbh but that's another argument).

I'd say it's a toss up between Barca, Real and AC Milan.

No chance Ronaldinho gets in Milan's All Time Reserves, let alone first XI. Even Kaka would have a hard time...

But we can say for sure that we had prime Ronaldinho, R9(he had arguably his best season here being only 19 years!) and Messi. Imagine if they would have played together in their prime....

Yeah, Barca wins these all time XIs debates.

Prime R10 (04-05), prime R9 (96-97) and Messi (either 10-11 or 14-15) is a bonkers attack. They'd devastate any team.

Call me a weird motherfucker but my all time front three is Rivaldo - R9 - Messi.

Ronaldinho, while God-like in many instances, would be too much of ball hog if you have R9 and Messi anyway.

PS: the reason I have Rivaldo in there isn't related to my above judgement on how they would play. I simply loved him and R9, before Messi appeared.

But a lot of R9's legacy is about people wondering "What Could have been?"

We are supposed to judge players on what they actually are, not what they could have been. Pele is everything. R9 maybe could have been if not injured.

Who had a better career? Also Pele is one of the most complete attackers with no weaknesses and immense natural ability too so I dunno how R9 can be better.

Even without the "What could have been?" he's had an incredible career, especially international wise. I know you don't like to talk about collective trophies, so look at the individual accolades then. He was a monster at 4 different clubs, and even at Real Madrid despite so many injuries he had a goal of 0.65, many world class strikers in their prime don't have these numbers.

414 goals in 616 appearances, and 88 of those goals were scored after rounding the keeper. That's a ratio of 0.67 overall, it's not a "what if".

I already said my opinion about Pele. Sure, he was complete, but so was Ronaldo. He had pace, dribbling and strength above everyone else.

Would you like to post your all time XI? It'd interesting to see more teams here.

I would like to post my team but it wouldn't be very popular and people will hate on it.

Part of the reason why I took offense to your team is because barring the Pele thingy I really like your team lol.

I'd put Zidane slightly ahead of Xavi and Lahm in for Cafu I guess.

It doesn't have to be popular. That's your opinion and if you believe in what you write/say it's all that counts I guess. My opinion regarding Pele might also be unpopular, especially in other forums😒 Here I have no doubts that 99,9% of the people put Messi above Pele and Maradona.

Are these 11's based on peak or career of a player?
