People are being premature in their assessment of Gomes. He has real potential I feel.

Can you tell us in what aspect is he above average?

I think people are delusional regarding Gomes. They want the young, tall and handsome player to succeed but the truth is he wasn't exceptional at anything in particular before Barca, and neither were his performances for Valencia or during the Euros.

They're hoping for him to become something he is not.

Gomes had horrible stats coming here. Very few goals and assists. I think Real Madrid were interested and we just wanted to get one up on them.

He has potential but probably only as a DM. Too slow for the attacking slots.

He wasn't great when he signed and he hasn't got any better. Him and Alcacer were a ridiculous waste of money.

I am giving Gomes this season to get used to what Barcelona means, and next season I expect more. If he will not develop, I would consider selling him in 2018 in the summer window, and trying to recuperate all of the money we payed for him. Until then though, it's way too early to cut him off.

He needs to work on his confidence though, I know playing next to MSN, can make you doubt your own abilities, but you have to overcome that and have complete confidence in you, otherwise you are destined to fail. Gomes has certain qualities, but this is a new level for him. He needs to rise to the challenge, like Denis as well.

I see some potential in him. He just isn't used to our style yet. If he can't do shit next season then it is time to go.

I think about Kovacic for Real Madrid and he's levels above Gomes IMO and he's like 5th/6th choice in midfield for them.

I've mentioned that already but I seriously doubt one of the strongest team on Earth, aiming to get multiple titles, should work as an experimental ground for players without confidence, psychological problems, etc.

I understand the "sympathy factor" but please tell me HOW one can play on a "new level" if he is seemingly lacking those needed "certain qualities"?
If you can see those qualities in him, then please make a short list for us, just in order to understand. What are those qualities?

This guy keeps impressing me to no end. Absolutely awesome game from him yet again!

I don't know about you guys, but I was really impressed with him tonight. Showed consistency in passing/playmaking, and threw in some good tackles too. Perhaps he's no Xavi/Iniesta during their prime, but having another playmaking brain may actually bring fresh creativity that we were so lacking in the last few seasons.

I like players that works hard of the ball. So raki was motm for me.

He could potentially be the signing of the season in La Liga. Considering his ability, he was really cheap.

Rakitic quickly becoming an irreplaceable feature for this team. Hard to fathom he has only played in like 4 official games so far. Unreal!
