André Gomes

Manchester United have had a bid of £31 million for Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes rejected, according to Catalunya Radio via The Sun.

United had been holding talks with the Portugal international's agent, Jorge Mendes, but have failed to agree a fee with the Camp Nou outfit.

Don't get the obsession with him in here. I know there are still inactive variables in his contract to make him more expensive. Still, Paco was expensive too and there isn't nearly as much hate as in here. By contrast, there are parallels in the performances/situations of these too. Both came late to the team, were young prospects signed for the future, both played bad in 2016 and improved bit by bit in 2017. Not saying that they were great in 2017, but there were times they added some positive things that helped us.

Just saw yesterday's 2nd half. The game was literally over. They tried to maintain their lead and played a bit like Spain in their prime. Always coming out of difficult situations by passes in triangle formations and Gomes' passing game was pretty flawless. Gomes was better than their other CM (I know Gomes played more LM and RM) Silva, who again lost many balls.

The biggest differnce between Paco and Gomes was that Paco didnt get to start every other game, and also didnt get subbed in very often. Also he atleast contributed a little while Gomes has done jack shit all season. The only notable good thing hes done is the pass to Alba which led to Messis goal in the clasico.

He is a pathetic joke of a player and if the rumours are true about the board rejecting 31m for that loser, they should get thrown out of the club and locked up in a basement where they can rot away.

Here. Just playing in functional system/midfield will make him and our other midfielders look much better than they did last season. If we can somehow get a worldclass midfielder like Verratti to play alongside him even better.

I expect us to improve regardless of new players as well, that is why I supported Enrique stepping down.
You wouldn't want Rakitic/Iniesta besides Verratti instead, if he comes? I trust them more than Gomes.

its The Sun, probably the worst newspaper around in the UK. would be hilarious if true though, got no idea what the hell United see in him. they could probably offer £40m and he'll still be here next season as shit as ever the board won't admit being wrong.

You don't pay 40 M+ for a backup
Had he been bought to be a backup we wouldn't have rejected three offers for him especially after the season he had.
It's clear that the club (wrongly) see him as a starter in the near future hence the desire to keep him

Is there any quality backup midfielder going for significantly less than 40 million?

I wouldn't doubt United was one of the ones that made an offer.

Mou and United were interested in him last summer before we sgined him, but they weren't willing to pay over the odds for him so they went to Pogba. I'm guessing due to his bad season here Mou and United thought they could get him for a decent price but we turned down their proposal.

We've got plenty already to be fair ... Rakitic , Rafinha , Turan , Roberto just for starters .

I place Gomez ahead of all them for what it's worth .... so does Jose , Zidane , ManU and Real Madrid seeing that they all wanted to buy him before we somehow managed the deal .

Just because we succeeded in getting the flop doesn't mean he's not a flop.

Imagine if Real Madrid used that logic and forced Danilo into their XI as often as possible just because he was chased by Barca and Man City.

It actually boggles the mind how people are still using that bullshit as an argument. Maybe back in October that would have still worked, but now?

Should have sold him and been done with it. Hopefully Valverde can pull a rabbit out of a hat with this guy. I just don't see how he would work, especially if we switch to a 4-2-3-1. Him and Busi together would be really really hard to watch.
