André Gomes

Cannot believe that was Andre Gomes on the fifth goal. Being in the correct position, receiving the pass from MAtS with a beautiful first touch and finally a through ball to Dembouz. Crazy stuff.

Yeah that was the moment that stood out for him when he was on. Wanted the ball in tight area, took it on the half turn and played the right ball early.

Too often last season he was hiding, first touch would be back the way he was facing or he would choose easiest pass.

He was good. Why some of us are upset? Is not that good? Hope he keeps it up and shows us his potential. He has so much to offer, it just needs to click.

No one is saying that.

The worst over reactions are from likes of you not anyone else.

He will have a much better season than last year. I'm not saying this because of this one game, I'm saying this because of Valverde.

You just have to look at Busquets, Rakitic or Alba. They are all easily a class better than they were last season.

Are you trying to say that Lucho's tactics were solely about milking Neymar Messi and Suarez as much as possible and that often neglected the importance of other players on the pitch when attacking especially midfielders who performed a sacrifical role whilst MSN did all the creative work? gtfo

Imagine him actually contributing to the team this year. I would be shocked, but it would be a pleasant surprise.

Analysis of the time he got on the field.

Nice clips .

Big pressure coming on in place of Iniesta .. then doing more in 12 minutes than Iniesta managed the previous 78 .

For what it's worth that touch and pass for the through ball to Dembele was Messi-like !!

Based on that clip he had good performance, but of course he will look good vs tired Espanyol players who gave up. Let's wait for proper match and see how he looks. Promising video, though!

Was gonna make a comment about how Valverde is really good at bringing the best out of his players but then remembered he played Roberto as RB.
Gomes to me looked like he lost some weight, maybe he will finally be able to move a little, and was surprised how he was actually putting effort into pressuring opponents, still not sure if this is Valverde effect or Gomes himself.

It is both. Valverde knows well how to get young players slowly into the starting line-up. Look at what he did with Semedo and expect him to do the same with Dembélé and maybe Gomes. Not that Gomes is really that young, but he had a hard first year with a coach who played him many different positions with many different partners. Look at some of last seasons midfield formations/pairings. It was ridiculous and ruined Gomes. Valverde knows how to handle such players and will give him a fixed position in the system with probably one alternative. Not everyone is suited to do a Roberto.

Valverde gives every player clear instructions how he wants them to play. If you look at the development of younger players you don't get the idea that Lucho gave them clear instructions. He always was more laissez-faire and gave players the possibility to unfold themselves which only really works if the players are on a very high level. Ancelotti is a similar type and look how players like Coman made a step back after Pep was gone. Sanches is also an example.
