Well he is talented and he is NOT slow . He's the 7th fastest in the whole squad according to those stats released a few weeks ago ( Rakitic is THE slowest in the whole squad incidentally ) .

I still feel that Gomes is simply lacking confidence as he's not been given a decent run .

This and playing him constantly in different positions doesn't help either. The position which suits him most imo is the one of Don Andres. I can remember that game when Gomes played RW and moved to LCM later when Don Andres got substituted. He was a different, way better player within a minute. Yesterday it was the same.

It is easier to play when the game is already won though.

Those statistics and data say little.
He could be relatively fast when running those test 60 or 100 meters, but the problem is that he is SLOW WITH the BALL, something that will not change unfortunately.

If you see those statistical test-results, Messi is just average with his speed but it simply doesn't count, because his ACCELERATION is one of the best worldwide, so Gomes's actual running-speed is only important when he is with the ball... but he is unexceptionally slow when the ball is also there...
