ter Stegen might not want to leave, but he seem arrogant enough to be offended if he's benched to the point where he'll ask to leave himself. Arrogant as in thinking he deserves to start not realizing how mediocre he's been himself.
He's probably also still dreaming about being Germany's #1 GK in case Neuer retires from the NT after the World Cup so he'll have to start for a team unless literally every other German GK is awful.
