He's in poor form this season like most of Madrid team but overall a top defender if we are being honest. Nowhere near Van Dijk though, that's obvious.

He gets too attracted to the movements of the attackers and often ends up vacating the spaces he should be defending the most. Gets way too excited.


Compare that to someone like Chiellini and you'll see the difference. The Italian was exceptionally canny and read attackers with so much ease.

Asencio is only same as Nacho inasfar as has been nothing special in Castilla, but what worked in his favour is he was the only CB consistently present
Game isnt all that different, but not similar enough for me.
Nacho hasnt been great on ball till he peaked around the time of the 2018 WC where was so good to point that he was difficult to leave out of squads (TBH continued same way till about 2021)
Asencio doesnt seem fast enough either, though has so far made up in positioning - Nacho OTOH was top3 sprinter in squad at peak shape
Not convinced he's a good header either and we're getting worse and worse in that department the longer Militao is injured/off-form

He could be good enough for 3-4th emergency choice, but seen nothing to think he could compete for starting spots
