It has always been my impression that Argentina lacks the neccessary quality in defense and midtfield to win wc, but Certain people obviously think thats wrong. So, can someone who follow Argentina very closely explain to me why their total package should hold up against lets say spain? In defense and midtfield you have zabaleta, di Maria and masch, the rest is not exactly world class, is it?

Well the team just has to get on with it. The issue aside from who is in goal is the midfield. Masche has no reliable deputy as Kranevitter/Romero was not picked. di Maria can tuck in again no sign of Gaitan.
What worries me and other supporters is the form of Gago/Banega. In which case if it is a choice between Perez and Sosa it has to be the former. Benfica badly missed him and Markovic in the EL final. Other than that the selections are fine although one more natural fullback like Peruzzi who could play either side was not chosen.

I do not want to make a prediction, I am not an expert of Argentine soccer (I am a Argentina fan since I saw Maradona, the greatest ever), but I think the team is good and not as bad as some believe.
It is a tournament with at most “only” 7 games. The most important thing will be the team spirit, to work as unit, the desire to fight like lions. The quality is there. I hope that the coach knows how to mix everything and make us dream.

Well in the past Argentina had stars all over the pitch and it didn't work out...perhaps a more hardworking team with a few stars & one genius will, circa Mexico 86.
