Hopefully Arsenal miss out on the top 4 and realise they need to spend money.

If today's loss doesn't get us into "money is no object" mode before Sept 1st, then it might have to get much worse before it gets better. We needed this wake-up call today, but it's up to Wenger/Gazidis as to how we respond.

Saw an Arsenal game after a long long time, good to know nothing has changed.

The DM advances forward and leaves space at the back for a counter, how predictable. Lots of pretty passing and combinations, only to be unlucky with the final efforts or a poor centre forward making zero good runs.

Arsenal would be so beast going forward if they had the likes of Higuain or Villa instead of Giroud.

He's not enough, when he performs well he is just good, not something special to make the difference. Not to mention that he is too inconsistent to rely on him..

No, they actually fixed that problem. It returned today because Arteta was gone and because Wilshere had returned as a box to box midfielder. No balance at all. If you would have seen the Arsenal that ended the 2012/2013 you would have seen some great defending. Clean sheets almost every game, including a game against Bayern.

EDIT: That was a confusing post, sorry. In other words; If you don't play Arteta as a DM and Ramsey as the box to box midfielder the defending is gonna be crap. Wilshere can't defend and should not be in positions where he is required to do so. The team will suffer. Especially if he doesen't have an experianced DM behind him.

But Giroud played well...

Arsenal's build up near the box is great, someone like Higuain or Villa who constantly make those little diagonal runs would up Arsenal's productivity so much. Giroud is good but just not that kind of player, atleast from what I've seen.

Wasn't aware of that, the last time I regularly followed Arsenal was when Fabregas was still with them.

Now that I think about it, I saw the 8-2 defeat to United too. THAT was a great game for the neutral.

Everyone on the team was making runs, Giroud was the player who was enabling those one-twos, especially with Rosicky. If he was making runs, there would be nobody to hold up play.

Whenever I watch Koscielny he's comitting fouls in the box left and right. In the CL against us he comitted a penalty tackle on Messi in the return leg in 10 / 11 which wasn't given. He caused a penalty against Spain (Pedro). Now this.

I'd say you're very unlucky then. He was incredible during the the end of last season. And was incredible in pre-season. He's an aggressive defender and when he's not protected by his midfield he tends to do that from time to time.
If you look at the situations today they occured because he had to fix someones else's mistake. Although he actually was having a bad game today. Usually his aggressive playing style works anyway but not today.

Still a great defender. One bad game isn't gonna take away so many MOTM performances he's been producing lately.

:worthy: put it better than I ever could. An absolute disgrace of a summer, especially when I read that the Higuain deal was 99.9% done (even about to pay Madrid's inflated price) and that we backed out because Gazidis/Wenger believed Suarez had a 40mil release clause set in stone. With half our best 11 out injured and the weakest bench we've had since 2008, we might well lose in 3 days and get knocked out of the champions league anyway.

I thought it was a nice tackle to be fair. He caught him at the back ever so slightly, harsh pen.

It was. But he was too agressive today. Usually he's a bit more composed. Look at the first goal for instance. Mistake in midfield, there was way too much space for Agbonlahor so I can't just put the blame on Koscielny. Still Koscielny should have kept his head cool and not try to win the ball back like that. He could've just contained him. Lousy defending right there but he should never have to be in positions like that. He should be protected by Ramsey and Wilshere. What were they even doing? This was embarrising.

Wenger as well. What the hell is he doing?

We don't have a DM in the club aside from Arteta. Not even Frimpong, and we sent Coquelin out on loan months ago and can't recall him. The back 4 had zero protection, and a clumsy pace merchant with the first touch of an elephant like Agbonlahor looked like Messi against us. Even Vermaelen who can deputize in that position, is out for months.

It gets even worse from there. Chamberlain is now out for 3 months, Ramsey and Gibbs are out for a couple of weeks, no Arteta till october, and Sagna might have a concussion. We only have 11/23 first team players available against Fulham next week. Bellerin was on the bench today, and might see action sooner than expected if we don't get some signings in.
