Benatia would have been better for around the same price, perhaps lower. I wouldn't be too pissed if we got Laporte though, he should at least be a great buy for the future, plus he'd be an immediate improvement to our current defense (not that that's saying much), even though he won't be as much of an immediate improvement as Benatia. He's overpriced, but who isn't?

I think our history with players from Serie A aren't the best ,Benatia is still a risk too and he is wanted by Bayern,PSG and Manu too .good luck with that

No need to buy 2 centre backs. Bartra has already proven that he's good enough.

Well depends on Mascherano tbh ,will he accepts being a back DM and 4th CB in Barca or a starting DM with one of his favorite coaches in Napoli?
I won't mind selling Mascherano and getting 2 new CBs to have 4 to rotate with ,may be a low profile experiened one like Jérémy Mathieu

But were did the CBs currently playing for City, Chelsea, Madrid, Bayern etc come from? They came from clubs like Hamburg, Porto, Fiorentina, Sevilla, French league etc. Not the Austrian 2nd division, but not from Juve and Man U either. Thats the problem with us. We are usually not interested in a player unless he is already bought up by a rich club with scouts.

Well Txiki was doing that ,he took some stupid risks but players like Marquez,Giuly Edmilson etc were amazing ,now we have Zubi and let's face the reality ,he can't scout 1st team players properly to save his life
Ironically he made really gr8 signings with Barca B,Halilovic ,Ie ,Luis Alberto,Denis Suarez .this guy is strange

I'm still a bit skeptical. People need to consider that Bilbao don't concede nearly as many counter attacks as we do and most of the time they actually defend with 4 or more players which makes him look better. There was one instance against Villarreal where Bilbao conceded a counter attack similar to the ones we always concede and Villarreal ended up scoring because Laporte's positioning was off.

A fantastic talent nonetheless and I'm looking forward to seeing him in a Barca shirt given that he really arrives.

Positioning is one of the areas that improves with experience ,He is insanely quick for a CB that is actually tall ,that is something that coaches can't teach and that is why his potential is amazing

I never thought he looked able to play at the pace and in tight areas required for midfield and for Argentina he plays a totally different role where he is barely expected to contribute much on the ball.

Why would we do that when Messi can cover the entire defense by himself? All he has to do is stand right in front of the box, and the waves of sheer awesomeness emanating from him will form a forcefield and deflect all shots at goal, allowing us to keep a clean sheet more than once or twice in a row.

Alright then. Buy Laporte and promote Ie. Or we could also get Papadopoulos from Schalke. That said could we tempt Howedes from Schalke as well? It'd be nice to get a couple of Germans in the team to help MAtS settle better.

Papadopoulos ?well his contract expire so that might be the only reason to even think about it ,he was good but those injuries could indicate he will play less than Puyol did this season
As for Howedes he is good ,but not good enough to be starter here and probably he thinks he is too good to be a back up

I think it was also TV3 who reported last summer that Lucho would become our coach. After this incident TV3 lost their credibility as far as I'm concerned so no comparison to the media that are currently reporting that Laporte will join us.

Marquez, Giuly, Edmilson? That was 10 year ago. Txiki did bad for many years, lets face it. And Guardiola was horrible. "Give me Chygrynskiy, no matter what the price!!" Then went on to sign Zlatan, Hleb, Caceres, Keirrison, Henrique and half a dozen other flops for hundreds of millions of euros. In fact for the last 6-7 years, only Alves of players with non-La Masia background can be said to have been a successful signing, out of probably 25 signings. Its shocking.
