Doing nothing to warrant only conceding 3 goals this season either

Most of these are just saves but in general he's a pretty crucial part of Bayern's build up process, especially when the other team can successfully press Xabi. He's probably saved at least 6-7 100% shots just this season alone. In the few closer games, he's been absolutely KEY in not losing those games. 3 goals conceded after facing 30+ shots on target is pretty crazy.
Either way, if he wins or not, I think it's just great that he got the nod. It's not true that he does nothing though. He's a crucial element for both club and country.

Ursegor's post made me think about the WC, and I have to say, other than the game against Algeria, I didn't remember much from Neuer.
Of course, his performance in the Buli and CL in general was more than awesome.

Yeah the Ballon d'Or is a sham, especially in recent years. 2012 and 2013, Messi and Ronaldo win the award for the years they didn't deserve it. I guess it works out in the end, but doesn't change the fact the award becomes more and more meaningless the more this kinda thing happens. Ronaldo should take it this year imo, who places where in the other 2 spots don't really matter, if you don't get 1st you're a loser whether you place 2nd or 10th. And by loser I mean no disrespect to the players, obviously. Just covering my ass in case somebody has PMS and calls blasphemy cause I supposedly called Messi a loser. 
It seems tough to compare outfield players and GKs. I'd much rather there be separate awards. Neuer is certainly the #1 GK.
I disagree with Ronaldo's nomination. I think it's a politically fabricated and created by the media and amplified by the echo chamber that is twitter and other social media. Why would he win an award for the best player?
Highest goal scorer last season? Tied with Suarez who didn't take penalties and Suarez didn't even make the long list.
Winning CdR, 3rd place in La Liga? Unlikely of much influence, and obviously 3rd place in a "two team league" is not so good.
Winning the CL? A team effort where he had multiple teamates who made as strong, or stronger contributions to the win.
World Cup? Obviously not in his favor, knocked out in group stage.
Current goal tally for this year? 20 goals may sound good, but Benzema has 8 goals. If they simply had Benzema take penalties instead of Ronaldo (6 this season), they would both have 14 goals. Would we suddenly be claiming Benzema as being on the same level of Ronaldo in goal scoring?
Tall, handsome, plays for Madrid, played in EPL, CR7 brand, Hollywood superstar image, goal tally. These are why he's going to win the Ballon d'Or. Not because he is the best player.
For example, Di Maria was Madrid's best player in CL, and had a much more successful WC when he was healthy, why isn't he considered above Ronaldo? Modric was better last season and this season for RM, and had an equally disappointing run in WC? Why not him? Why not any of the other people who contribute to Madrid's CL win, and also contribute weekly to Ronaldo's goal tally? Because Ronaldo happens to be at the front of the formation?
It's absolutely absurd to me and his mere nomination is enough to discredit this award. But as he is obviously going to win, it adds a whole new level of patheticness to the award.

There is not a single team, past, present, and probably future, who would not benefit from swapping absolutely any player on their team for Messi. He is on his own level. Titles are often won by inches and can come largely to chance (1 close goal in WC final happens to go in and Messi is WC champion), but skill, you can see that on display as clear as day. And no one is near Messi in that category. We all already know he is going to be considered the greatest of all time when he retires. We all know he's the best. So why would he not be winning the award for the best player? You think if Messi was on Germany, Atletico, or Madrid, they wouldn't have won the WC/La Liga/CL?

Yeah fair point, it's a hard one but I pick Ronaldo, just. The league and a tonne of goals is better than 90 goals and a Copa del Rey imo. 30 odd extra goals over Ronaldo(no idea of his exact tally for 2012, assuming his got around 60) yet couldn't manage to lead his side to the league, I find that to be a rather disappointing statistic. That said I don't know how much teams like Barca and Madrid value the CdR, cause it seems to me like it's the trophy they go for if they fail in the league, which kinda kills it's value, but I could be wrong. I won't argue any of Messi's other wins. Ronaldo was just given it last year to make up for losing 4 times in a row.
Stupid Blatter, he needs to go.Oh, Simeone really needs to win the coach award. I really don't think Low should get it since Germany weren't really spectacular at all, despite winning the WC. They were just good, and were actually a team who didn't need to rely on their one star man, so there's at least the credit for that. But honestly the quality of the teams at the WC, despite the glut of goals at times, was actually quite low. It was a somewhat entertaining tournament due to the goals but the football played there was pretty poor, so poor indeed that Germany didn't even need to play that well to win. I mean shit Argentina got to the final, but then you argue who would deserve to be there if they didn't make it? The rest were generally as bad or worse. I rarely found myself genuinely enjoying most matches.
But yeah, Ancelotti can live with 2nd or 3rd, as long as he doesn't win. But I have to say I'm expecting Low to win, because the WC is just worth too much when it comes to the voting, see Fabio Cannavaro 2006.

If that's what's supposed to warrant Neuer being a top 3 football player the hype is even worse than I thought. Getting directly shot at when the scoreline is 5-0 against Brazil is worthy of a gif now.
Standard highlight reel of a top goalkeeper, if I could be bothered I would post 200 gifs of Keylor Navas' impossible saves to put that into perspective. Neuer was neither the best GK in the WC nor in the CL. No one is questioning that he is the best GK in general based on potential. No one is questioning that he pulls great saves. Did he perform so far ahead of his peers in 2014 that he is now a top 3 football player (not GK but football player in general)? As if. He's there because Germany needs a respresentative after winning the WC, not based on merit.
Edit: lol Just checked all the gifs. Posting http://gfycat.com/BruisedDangerousErmine in this discussion sums up the Neuer hype. Obviously any other goalkeeper and it would have been an own goal.

What's ridiculous about it? You getting overly defensive about anything Bayern is nothing new but seriously now. Neuer is not the reason Bayern are walking Bundesliga. No one would have nominated Neuer as the best goalkeeper in the CL after the semi-final. So what's left is the World Cup. Where Argentina had 0 shots on target, France had 1 meaningful shot from an angle and Brazil got toasted historically. His standout game was sweeping up against Algeria. Casillas' heroics against Robben in 2010 and his penalty save late in the game against Paraguay surpasses anything Neuer has done in WC 2014 (and even then MARCA's "Casillas for Ballon d'Or" campaign was ridiculed) yet people act like Neuer performed historical stuff this year. I obviously understand that they had to choose and hype 1 German player in a year in which Germany won the tournament but I'd like to think on a forum like this we aren't casual fans who fall for such hype so let's be real.
