Barca tops Real in money league

Few days ago Deloiotte published their 20th edition of the Money League - analysis of the clubs’ relative financial performance.

Aggregate revenue for the top 20 Money League clubs rose 12% to €7.4 billion (£5.5 billion) in 2015/16, a new record, with three clubs breaking the €600m barrier.

Manchester United regained first place in the Money League 2017, breaking the 11-year hold that Real Madrid had on top spot. Record revenue of €689m (£515.3m) reflected strong growth across all three revenue categories (matchday, broadcast and commercial), boosted by the club’s return to the UEFA Champions League and new commercial partnerships.


FC Barcelona (€620.2m) and Real Madrid (€620.1m) complete the Money League top three, as they did in the first edition of the Money League, produced for the 1996/97 season.

It's revenue, not profit.

Our expenditures are rising as fast as revenue. Football is disgusting. The money tripled in a decade, largely to the profit of players and agents. And that money fuels exclusively the luxury indutries. It won't end well.

Manchester United back on top. It's deserved. One FA cup in three years.

Wouldn't the new EPL TV deal in place starting with the current season (16/17) make EPL clubs like Manchester United increase revenue even further?

Regardless of the exchange rate factor, credit to Manchester United for exploring their commercial revenue to its fullest potential, having signed close to 70 sponsors world wide, the most in the world. EPL clubs enjoy the advantage of the English language (hence bigger influence and better TV deals).

Also, starting with this season Buli clubs will see their TV revenue go up significantly too. For example Bayern is said to get 30m more this year.

Real Madrid will probably get a mega deal from Adidas too, won't be lower than ours.

Overall it will be a very tight race in the next years to come. We are not doing significantly better than the likes of Manchester United, real and Bayern even with Messi being with us, imagine how we will fare in the years without Messi.

Yes, now it's getting increasingly higher to get a superstar of that magnitude but Barca will be alright.

New stadium will generate more revenue and if we are smart we will use Messi as leverage to attract potential successors.
