I know he plays for Espanyol, but if Joan Garcia truly is the real deal then losing out on him if he's in the 20-25m price range would be terrible IMO.

Catalan, plays in the same league and city even and has been the best GK in La Liga this season. Decent enough with his distrubution even though nothing special. Fits the height/reach threshold. Could be your starter for 5-8 years if you rate him highly enough of course.

It's not easy to find top young GKs, and even when you do they will probably cost 40m+.

Relying on Kochen or Yaakobishvili to maybe turn good is not a sound succession plan. I remember when Inaki and Arnau were very highly rated as well.

But I suppose the club don't want to make it ugly by forcing ter Stegen out and cashing in whatever they can get for him while getting rid of his salary.

Same, yes. I just assumed with how highly rated both Kochen & Yaako are and knowing both Mats & Tek will be here next season the Garcia link is odd but its rumor season

Plus, Iñaki will have to be sold. I hope Deco is up to it because there’s lots of deals to work on

The rumours started long before Tek said he will renew, maybe even before Ter Stegen injury. Very possible it is recycled.

With that said, I've to agree with @DonAK , if there the club consider him the real deal, then going for him is the right choice.

I've a feeling that in case we win the treble (we are still long way from that), Tek might retire again. You don't get a better ending to your career than that.

We could probably even get him for the money we would get for MATS, I belive some English idiots like United would still buy MATS. But yeah, Barca's not smart enough to do that.

Unless Garcia lacks ambition, moving from Asspanyol crosstown does nothing for his career with at least 2 ahead of him just so Barça could possibly turn a profit on him in a sale

The Catalan will want to go somewhere he can play, in addition to moving to a better club. Quite possibly future NT starter as well and with Premiership clubs linked to him, only a legit shot at being the #1 would make sense for him to consider Barça

On balance, would I take the soon to be 24 y.o. over Tek or Mats as a longterm solution? Perhaps

I had forgotten the rumor that Iñaki may be allowed to seek a club on a free (provided a good sell on clause is included in all likelihood) so Mats would need to be moved or accept rotating with 3 yrs left on his contract

Considering his wages and all the things that have to fall into place, including how to manage situations with Kochen & Yaako? Not sure Garcia‘s acquisition is a probable outcome

I know by now not to trust media when it comes to having the next big GK in our own ranks. I've seen so many names mentioned only for them to end up forgotten at other clubs.

The club shouldn't be afraid of loaning young GKs out if there is hope of becoming a first team GK.

Next season is definitely going to be with Marc and Tek. The year after that probably just Marc. The GK issue unfortunately isn't being addressed properly with other positions considered in need of more urgent reinforcement.

Not saying he's the real deal or anything.
But he had a good season. Fits the GK mold. Has stats to back up claims. Could be a good GK for the future.
Any proven GK will cost us around 50m and even then its not a guarantee they will perform.
If Garcia is around 30m, we are actually in a win-win situation. He can easily be sold for around the same amount, come 3 years later.

If the club belief one of the two young GK is a future starter, no one will be signed. We are La Masia & B team dependent to fault.
BTW Yaakob hasn't renewed yet, while we have been hearing about the agreement for months now. Zahavi is his agent and he has been pushing for Bulka as our new GK, that doesn't make me confident about him staying. Kochen lost his starting spot to Astralaga with the new coach. I feel they are couple of years away from being considered first team starter potential, assuming we don't stall them in endless Barca B rotations like we did with Inaki and rnau.

As for Joan Garcia, the clubs he is linked to is us, Real Madrid and Arsenal. I am not sure where he is going to be a starter?
Most big clubs has their starting GK set, only Manu and possible City (as they want to kick Ederson to Saudi) and both fighting for Costa atm, and Joan isn't in their plans.

The most likely thing next season is MATS/Scez and the club not using what money have on any GKs.

They will back what have coming through to try and prove a level before going out and buying anyone would be my guess.

Garcia does look good but clubs like Arsenal and Real would seem see him more as a bit of a punt and opportunity as much as being a starter. Barca not in position to do that really.

Unless mats falls off a cliff due to his injury, he's our keeper for the next 2-3 years minimum.

We Just have to accept it

He is officially injury prone for a GK at this point. He is 33 next week. He isn't suddenly going to be healthier and better.
Even before last injury, Deco was rumoured to be looking for long term replacement. New coach, new SD might not hold Marc at the same regard as the previous ones did.

Assuming Tek stays, he isn't going to be getting just garbage minutes that Inaki used to accept, it will depend on how Flick sees the two next year and from there the club could very well go for a new GK in summer 2026

Right now, both Joan Garcia and Chevalier are considered. Both are putting up great numbers this season and very unlikely that both will be sold this year and unlikely to be costing more than 30M which isn't that much in terms of resources.

I think that’s it then, sporting strategy for those who haven’t renewed

I just don‘t believe it‘s a credible outcome to see Garcia here despite being impressed by his potential considering club couldn’t get simple deals done in last 2 seasons. Yes, FFP & registering was part of that but who knows after several pragmatic off seasons what will go down if the 1:1 is confirmed by Liga

FW, LW & FB seem the most logical needs but perhaps major changes are indeed imminent

City reportedly interested in Joan Garcia as their second option to Diogo Costa.

Never been convinced by Ortega, so I wonder if they may just go and try and buy them both.

That is true.
But I just think that with MATS injury, we can't afford a backup GK we can't trust as a starter anymore.
So as long as Tek is playing well and renewing, very unlikely we will sign anyone. Which is fine tbh.
