Players can't be officially registered until the transfer window opens, meaning they aren't seen as a part of the club in the eyes of the FA/UEFA. Dunno what difference it would make but there are probably specific cases where there's an issue that arises about players signing before the transfer window (maybe something like our transfer ban?).

That's it basically. The papers between the club and the player can be signed before the transfer window opens, but they are to be registered only after. Probably the Rakitic and Bravo contracts were lying somewhere in a drawer waiting to be registered.

I am so curious to see how Lopetegui does with Porto, has always struck me as a fine coach...Would make sense to bring in a player he has worked well with in Tello and can get the best out of him...I imagine the player wouldn't mind himself...Could be the best move for everyone involved so long as Barcelona don't include a cheap buyout clause
