I've done some digging, and it seems that Cuadrado only became a fulltime winger when he moved to Fiorentina in 2012. Before that he was regularly played as a wingback at Udinese. Feel a bit better about this deal now.
There is a reason why he only came to the scene onced moved further forward. That's when he started to perform quite well. I think Cuadrado is a good winger. Quite good, but I don't think he would be needed at Barcelona as a winger or a Wing-Back, BUT.... If Luis Enrique want him, then do your best to get him and Cuadrado might surprise many and do really well as a Wing-Back, BUT.... don't expect him to do better than Dani Alves while defending at the start of his potential Barcelona career.
