This is the problem: IMO we need 2 (young) CB's EVEN if Mascherano stays, to have a future to build on, when he eventually leaves.

To truly replace Mascherano we need to swap with Bonnucci or should bought Hummels or someone like that - but he is a very good fit and a leader (we have few left) so swapping with anyone wouldn't make sense in the first place. Keeping him to teach a solid youngster makes sense, and then he can leave.

As much as I like Mascherano I don't really fear the lose of his leadership
I mean it is always gr8 to have guys like him.but this is a veteran team.there are very few headcase players and most players are very mature and many of them are their NT captains.
Nothing against Mascherano,but I think the team will do fine without his leadership presence,but it is his attributes as a player that will be missed unless we properly replace him.

65M,and IIRC we have a sort of a gentleman agreement that if we pay a player buyout they won't make us pay taxes and will just take the money.
But 65M for a CB is really tough to pay.

Yeah, it was 45M € until this January - I would have liked him more than Laporte to be honest. But with 65M now - he has made his choice for sure (and you can't really blame him).

I know, I don't think he should be allowed to leave. He must pay for the bad planning made by our board - that we have no CB with more than 2 years in him at Barca-level (except Pique), so we simply can't sell. If he insists, we will be generous and consider selling him next year. Else our defence will implode, and that simply must not happen.
