Sorry man i was struggling to think of names
Ha! it's actually not your mistake... because of his oh so frequent visits to the injury table it would be difficult to remember he even existed

You bunch of elephants!
"Who's the best free kick taker at the moment"
There, served it in a red Comic Sans font, size 7.
Plipper my man, I know you're well educated and a super globetrotter ... but I have to doubt that you would consider Al-Gharafa to be a legit part of world football. Let alone you have seen Juninho take a free kick the past one and a half year.

Not really. He will score spectacular free kicks but his ratio shots/goals is ridiculously low. I bet it goes around 10%. (well, I know it does from his United days but I just pretend I don't just so I can later slay all the CR boys with some good stats) The amount of shots he blasts wide or into the wall are uncountable. Seems to be his game in every department afer all, uncountable tries will eventually have some results. A high profile Dani Alves or Alex so to say. Or a full grown Sneijder.
We're a bit in a shit period for those REAL free kick takers. You know, the ones that put down the ball and take four steps back, they look at the ball and one part of the stadium goes silent thinking "fuck this, it's going in" while the other part of the stadium starts roaring "HAHA YES, IT'S GOING IIIIIIIN!!!". Even the opponent's keeper knows the exact coordinates where the ball is going ... but still misses it.
No, those players a la Beckham, Ronaldinho, Del Piero, Juninho ... aren't here anymore. Maybe Messi thinks he is, but he isn't.
I think the last "real" one in Spain was Guti for me. Maybe not as rampant as those mentioned above but he certainly had the talent ... only to not use it like all his other skills. Xavi (although I think he isn't good at it) and Senna can pull it off once in a while but not really worth mentioning.
Drogba looks fairly dangerous to me but isn't that classic either, though certainly among the most dangerous ones next to the likes of CR.
So: there are still specialists around but they aren't the ones they used to be anymore, mostly due to age I think. Others can score beautiful free kicks but they have to be in the zone to make them so they aren't really specialists. I probably forget a lot of them but given I can't name one instantly (like the Beckham) just says enough.
