IMHO it is not fair to compare percentages. I guess Arsenal wouldn't have a 90% in a 99000 stadium. Probably not even Dortmund.
And having a season ticket in Catalonia is a national thing, a heritage. It has nothing to do with Messi. I don't have the figures but I guess there was about the same number of season ticket holders (or the max allowed) even in the worst years. And the mentality of Catalans are quite different to British, Italians or Germans.
It's also not fair to blame season ticket holders for the relative (!) low attendance. Any average fan could buy a ticket to any game (except for El Clasico), there are no fans left out the stadium due to season ticket holders.
I cannot recall any event that sells 100 000 tickets for 30 times a year (at the same venue of course).
