Here is a thread presenting the problem:
There is a global trend where old stadiums filled with history and character are being demolished to erect the very same mega-stadiums
So basically we shouldn't update/build new stadiums.

Since that won't happen, what new stadiums do you like?.

We should update/build
but IMO the architects either lack imagination/flair/taste
OR/AND the firms prioritized the aspects of utility of stadiums

There was talk last week that the stadoum

There were talks last week (that guy who left and was part of Espai project) that the bloated stadium loan is because part will be used against other debt servicing.

If that is true, they should not have lied to us. There is an ongoing inquiry from one of the soci groups seeking clarification whether the Nou Palau and everything else they promised as part of the Campus will be built.

It's probably the latter + easier to build these designs.
Most stadiums in any sports these days usually look like that or are square and ugly.

The only thing I would say is I liked the asymmetry aspect of our stadium and how the old foster designed kept that, wish we did in this redesign as well

Well it's a bowl with a roof, not many options unless you want to spend a whole lot more money to get that something extra that will make no difference to the atmosphere inside the stadium.

A roof improves the acoustics, Camp Nou will be louder. Also the sun and heat on hot days really are a bitch, anyone who ever played in those conditions at any level knows. Plus it looks shite on TV. So the renovation will only be a good thing.

For me, ambiance is key and that won’t be affected by updating

Structurally, the exterior currently is only ok but within the stadium the optics are excellent. A partial roof will help with inclement weather but could impact the optics of an open air feel - I can only assume this has already been assessed up front in design by Nekken Sekkei

The first tier structure of the stadium will not change but the underground corridors will be removed and access improved. A new third tier is planned to improve accessibility and comfort, along with a double VIP ring between the second and third tiers.

A new semi transparent (membrane) roof will incorporate elements to boost sustainability, such as a geothermal system and a district heating and cooling system. It will be covered with 30,000m² of solar panels to generate photovoltaic energy. One of the priorities of the new project is sustainability, with the aim to provide more spaces for electric cars and more solutions for sustainable mobility.

There will be a screen circling the entire stadium so that should be cool for AV aesthetics that were lacking. The stadium will be symmetrical and modernized with the latter sorely overdue.
