Cesc coming out did not make the other 9 outfield players suddenly start playing better and creatively. It did not improve our movement or how we looked overall as a side. Scapegoating one player in particular is pointless. We might as well just going around pointing fingers at every one... Pedro, Messi, Xavi... they all played bad. Cesc isn't being used properly and he's being used in a position where we need Iniesta, therefore making him look even worse. That's not his problem.I'm glad there's always a way to defend Cesc. At the end, It's always nice to not learn from the mistakes and keep making them.
Did you really think Barca would suddenly play great once Cesc was benched? when that happened, we needed to score 3 goals in 20 minutes. That's the reason why subbing Cesc did not make any difference, because it was too late. It was also harder to attack, because Mourinho told them to defend, and even changed Ozil for Pepe. If we had scored early, it would have been a different history, but that was impossible with Cesc running around having no idea what to do, In the match I saw him as a left winger, as a right winger, as a 9, as a midfielder, as a defender. Basically he was trying to do it all at once, and failing shoots & passes. But hey, let's protect Cesc, it's not his fault... never.
He has been playing in Midfield...?Switch Cesc with Iniesta, Cesc belongs in midfield.
Maybe, might as well try it considering Alba and Alves would work their way forward to keep the width.Villa-Cesc-Messi, problem solved. Best of... well, not both worlds, but all worlds.
Cesc is part of the problem right now not the solution.
Why can't we afford to bench Cesc again? Pep did it.
He is an amazing passer, but now that teams figured out how to isolate our left wing and Messi in the middle he has become redundant. We need to adapt to this, bench him and play an actual LW/forward like Villa or Tello and put Iniesta in his god given postion of mid.
They could at least try... When Cesc arrived, he was used as a forward by Pep, and it worked for a while, until he had that dip in form.We could afford to bench Cesc, sure, but wouldn't it be more logical to (sometimes) take advantage of the things he brings to the table? Especially when they'd come in handy? He's hands down the best final pass provider in the world right now, and is on top of his game when used in the right environment. At the same time, Messi cutting through the middle from his false #9 position has become too obvious and easy to defend against. Why not just put 2 and 2 together and come up with a solution that would cover multiple issues. Put Messi on the wing, where he'll have more space, because the opposition defense can't afford to crowd around him in wide areas. Put Villa on the left, and Cesc in the false #9 position. Messi will cut in from the right like nobody's business, Villa will use his brilliant positioning to drag away defenders from both Cesc and Messi, and Cesc will be able to provide passes to both Messi and Villa, a genuine forward. Of course, MVP with Pedro on form could work well, too, but considering some of our problems lately, and Pedro being off form, Villa-Cesc-Messi seems like the more reasonable option to me.
