On 1 July 2023, Fàbregas was appointed as head coach of Como U19 and B following his retirement from professional football.[165] He obtained his UEFA A coaching licence in 2023.[166]

On 13 November 2023, following the dismissal of Moreno Longo, Fàbregas was promoted to first-team head coach on an interim basis.[167] As he had no UEFA Pro coaching license by the time of his appointment, Fàbregas was handed a special dispensation to fill in as head coach for one month.[168] On 20 December 2023, Como announced the appointment of Osian Roberts as the new caretaker manager until the end of season, while Fàbregas will stay on as an assistant to the first team coaching staff.[169] Fàbregas's final game in charge of the club was a 3–3 home draw against Palermo on 23 December 2023.[170]

The UEFA Pro Diploma
Course participants on the UEFA Pro Diploma are required to have:

- A valid UEFA A licence
- Completed at least one year’s coaching experience, after graduating with the UEFA A licence, as a head coach at elite youth or senior amateur level, or as an assistant coach in professional football.

This course will provide participants with a clear understanding of player and team development and the role of a head coach at professional level. It will help coaches develop and apply technical policy and philosophy, creating a winning team and high-performance culture.

The Pro diploma also helps create seasonal tactical and physical team plans in accordance with competition schedules and club objectives.

Messi plays a lot of those little lifts in behind a defence. Not exactly like that, granted, as he is often dribbling first rather than playing first time. But he often does similar stuff.
