How about Neuer, Hummels, Alaba, Lahm, Thiago, Vidal, Xavi Alonso, ...
Neuer, Hummels, and Lahm were among the players who carried Germany to WC glory. Alaba is the best player and captain of the Austrian team. How he missed Carvajal's run leading to the 1:1, I don't know. Probably offside but no replay was shown, only replays of Ronaldo's goal. Thiago is world class as well and we will regret forever to let him leave Barça. Vidal has his flaws but won Copa America twice for Chile and certainly did well until his penalty miss.
Okay, I admit, I missed Neuer but all the rest you mentioned are not star players (not anymore). Lahm and Xabi Alonso are experienced world class players but they are way past their prime, it's their last season in competitive football anyway. Xabi Alonso in particular made the most wrong passes last night, I think one of his wrong passes led to Javi Martinez's second yellow card. The Spanish media suggest he was subbed because of a second yellow card threat, but I believe playing against his former teammates got to him, the cameras captured his disappointment after being subbed. Hummels is injured, but it is still his first season, adapting to his new/former club.
Thiago is one of best La Masia talents to come out in this decade, but if you read Bayern's forums or at least have friends who love this club, Thiago is the first one they always question in the starting eleven. Bayern fans will never love him and he is not really into giving 100% for this club. I see a possible return to Barcelona, like Fabregas or transfer to the Premier League, but I'm not sure about his level. He is still definitely far far away from Xavi and Iniesta brilliance.
I don't see Arturo Vidal as a star in this team - drunk scandals, tattoos, mohawk haircut... he is more like a product on the pitch, not a footballer. Remember Juventus destroyed us on Tuesday night without their former stars Vidal and Pogba. And he missed the crucial penalty last night, with that smile on his face...
As for my favorite David Alaba - man I would have loved to see him in Barcelona, but we have Jordi Alba who is one of the fastest and most technical wing backs in modern football. Simply there is no room for Alaba at Barca. Anyway he is doing great at Bayern thanks to his great friendship and tutoring he gets from Franck Ribery.
