Champions League 2017/18

A good defender doesn't make mistakes, simple as that

He didn't make the mistake. In fact, their style of play is not minimizing mistake like the team that relies on Positional play. Their team play is you win if you score more than your opponent.

Now remember, why this Barca is creating fewer chances than Lucho. Because were defensively better. We were static. We hold on to positions. And this means, opponents can't outnumber since you rarely make mistake. But for Real Madrid, they attack with their all. Marcelo, Casemiro, Kroos, Modric, Ramos, Carvajal. It's why they are the most efficient team. Their play is to score. There's no way for positional discipline. You've to tackle.

We create less this season because the player who created most chances for Barca last season left.

And that doesn't mean we play with 10 players. There's an additional player. But now, the team is no more mobile. That's why Valverde play Iniesta with all his injury risks. Coutinho doesn't provide you the assurance of Positional play.

Nope we play with 11 players but the player who replaced him creates less chances.

Barca and Real both play to score more even when they lead, they're not like Juve or Atletico, the difference is that now Barca has worse players in the final third compared to last year.

Not all attacking team's primary goal is to score goal as if their life depends on it. But for Real Madrid it is. For Barca, their primary goal is minimizing their mistakes off the ball and maximizing opponents mistake on the ball. As I mentioned in the other thread, 99% of the goal is scored when a defender makes a mistake. So, consequently our positionally play is extended towards goal.

Now, the most important aspect of Barca is Position. If Messi moves, Rakitic should make sure the positional discipline is not disrupted. When a defender or defensive player is out of position he has erred.

But the most important aspect of Real Madrid's play is being unpredictable by outnumbering the opponents.

In Barca, a defender changes his position or charges forward only if another player covers.

But, in real madrid there's no position at all. You react to the movement of the opponent.

so frustrating that the Barca game is on the same day as Liverpool-City :banghead: not really interested in Bayern-Sevilla or Madrid-Juve

predictions:

Sevilla 0-3 Bayern
Juve 1-1 Madrid

Liverpool 1-2 City

Juve really need to play confidently against Madrid. They (Juve) almost looked scared to have a go at Tottenham at times. Its not like they are incapable; in recent memory they have had success with attempts to play on the front foot against the likes of Madrid/Barca, and I really feel their shortcomings are when they sit back too much. Not at all saying they need to play 100% attacking football, but they become a very strong team when they can find balance.

Regarding Sevilla/Bayern, I would be shocked if Sevilla get anything out of this game. The circumstances are different from when Barca played them, and I think given that they did give Barca a tough time, Bayern will be all the more focused. Fully expect Bayern to win.

Don't think that the defensive abilities of a defender can be estimated in a million ways.

A good defender doesn't make mistakes, simple as that.

Ramos is good athletically, can score goals and outjump opponents and performs well in big games.

Ramos is also mistake prone, is too aggressive and gets too many dumb yellow/red cards and positionally is a disaster.

On 1vs1 he is above average, players like Messi or Kane get past him easily.

So, in your opinion, Hummels, Chiellini are average defenders because they make mistakes sometimes ? :D :mascherano:

Even Maldini, Baresi made some mistakes sometimes, that doesn't mean they were average defenders.

I think ramos is WC defender who would walk in best 11 in every top team, as much he is prone to mistake he is one of the best when it comes to set pieces, so if he lacks sometimes discipline in defending he is pure danger up front at set pieces

You are saying he is bad 1vs1 and player like messi would go past him, pls name 1 defender who would stop messi 1vs1

There are lot of defenders who stopped Messi 1vs1 a lot of times. But that doesn't mean Messi didn't made them to look like fools before. Every football playerr can be stopped.

Best midfielder around
Hopefully the same Dybala that turned up against us last season is the same Real Madrid face tonight. Not that sulky, whining shitkid that he can be if things don’t go his way. Expecting nothing from Higuain as usual. 1-3 for Real Madrid is my bet. Juve rarely lose at home, but Real Madrid are fucking unreal in the CL.
