The answer is yes. People have quickly forgotten just what liverpools defense looked like before he joined.

Watch sevilla away from 17/18

Lol they had Clyne Lovren Toure Moreno, memes for decades, their current back line is like 50 times better, not even comparable, it's not just Van Djik, and the guy got outperformed every game by Matip, also Mane was running the show in our game.

The one player every Liverpool fan looks to see on the team sheet is VVD. Tells you all you need to know about who is the most influential individual in the Liverpool team.

No question about it.

yes, you are right to say that Liverpool vastly improved its defence since that defeat to sevilla. but the addition of VVD was the piece that pushed them above the threshold and into serious challengers status. to say nothing of the aura he has and the calm and confidence he brings to the side.

its sort of like our 2015 MSN. Yes, suarez, neymar and iniesta, rakitic were great that season. phenomenal, even. but noone would deny that it was messi who made the final difference

How do you mean? You think you’ll finish 2nd?

No. We'll probably top the group, team will go full of themselves claiming that they're back and all that, then they'll draw some young decent team like Borussia and get boinked with ease. You know, homage to the 2000s.

Not sure, let’s see if Zidane can work his CL magic still without Ronaldo.

Impressive performance by Napoli. Might very well be a dark horse in this year's edition in terms of going far.

That young Norwegian number 9 for Salzburg looks to be quite a talent.

Is there a reason why last year's Champions League thread is not locked yet and this one not made a sticky thread? For starters that thread contains the Anfield catastrophe which should be enough not only to close it but to delete it completely.

Real Madrid = VAR, no party.

Nice comeback by Atlético.

All of the Spanish teams are looking ordinary. There's no doubt La Liga has slipped. Part of the problem is most of the good managers are in the epl. Guys like Pochettino, Klopp and Pep have really raised the bar.

La liga is living off the past. I think even Serie A is getting better.

You are saying that based on last season after 1 decade of total dominance of Spanish club football? The same Spanish club football that has historically dominated in Europe as well rather clearly. Ok.

The same "mighty" EPL had 1 win and 1 draw to their name this round. Serie A, while improving, is lightyears behind La Liga. Inter was being outplayed at home against Slavia Prague and should have lost. Atalanta lost 4-0 against freaking Dinamo Zagreb. Juve bottled a 0-2 lead. Only Napoli impressed against Liverpool.

Sure, Barça and RM are at a similar level to the 2006-2008 era but I would not even be surprised if we, RM or Atlético end up winning the CL. The CL is a lottery. Once a team has progressed to the round of 16 anything can happen. All it takes is a few solid games. Barça, RM and Atlético all have the individuals and teams (on a good day) to win the CL.

If Tottenham could make it to last year's CL final and Liverpool (serial bottlers for 10+ years), as good as they are but take a look at some of their individual talent, the big 3 can as well with some luck. Which every CL winner (almost) has needed. Last season Liverpool should have been kicked out of the CL in the group stages.

Hell no. Keep it up as a reminder of what a worthless shitstain Valverde is. Move the Anfield match thread back into the matches forum and sticky it too while you're at it.
