Not really that unexpected. Madrid have looked bang average in an awful lot of games this season. Lost to worse teams than Arsenal.

I think a lot of people (including me) placed a lot of emphasis on these teams' respective history in this competition.

That stuff generally matters a lot, but tonight Arsenal have played the team and not the reputation or myth. Good on them.

A lot of teams see 'Real Madrid' and are terrified. Not Arsenal.
