Atleti are on the upswing. Liverpool still unconvincing.

It is either a draw or Atleti going through on away goals IMO. Unless they choke it.

So it is confirmed the PSG-Dortmund game this Wednesday will be played behind closed doors and our home game against Napoli next week might have the same fate apparently. However other CL games might not go on as normal.

I understand why they are doing this but if UEFA does decide to do this it needs to be applied to all games, not just a selected few as it will give some teams advantages over others.

UEFA has nothing to do with this. The French minister of health decided that all events with 1000+ people to be suspended.
The French police decided to play PSG-Dortmund behind closed doors.

It is unfair as hell. Especially for teams in need of a comeback, but it is what it is.

That'd give an unfair advantage to City tbf. It'd be like playing every game at home for them.

As Andresito said, it isn't even UEFA decision. If government decided that, UEFA can do nothing about it.

there is no reason to basically punish other teams if their governments are ok with playing games with fans

Liverpool is incredible at home. They beat the PL record for 22 consecutive wins on Anfield. It would be a huge surprise if Atleti could get through. My bet is on Liverpool to advance.

They've been pretty vulnerable at home of late. West Ham and Bournemouth both managed to do well and Atleti are even harder to intimidate often times. If anything, nobody like Atleti, bar perhaps Wolves, has visited Anfield in recent memory. United on shit form stayed in the game at 1-0 until stoppage time.

Basically I don't disagree about them being strong at home. But Atleti are the best equipped team to do what's necessary and the best possible team to contest that record of Liverpool's.

Also remember, Simeone's Atletico has never lost a tie beyond RM/CR team, much less vs an English team. The few times in recent they dropped a game in Europe to an English side was vs:
a) Liverpool in Europa League 2009/10 where they lost 1:2 at Anfield having won 1:0 at home, therefore advancing ( ;) )
b) Chelsea in group stages that same season.
c) Also losing to Bolton 0-1 away and Aston Villa in Europa League in the same fashion as that 09/10 tie vs Liverpool.

So let's hope it's the repeat of 09/10 EL semis. I envisage it exactly as such.

This Atletico's team doesn't have prime Godin anymore, which was the best low block defender from this generation of players. If this was prime Atletico from 2016, I would agree with you. But currently they are in rebuilt stage, just like Real, which means they are much more vulnerable and make more mistakes than usual. I think they won't be able to handle the pressure from Anfield stands. The only way I see for Atletico to advance is if they score first, just like in the case of West Ham and Bournemouth. Then they will just defend until the end of the match with low block and in this case the cushion of 2 goals they'll have, should suffice.

Which is completely conceivable and normal tactic employed in cups by teams since the dawn of time. While Liverpool have shown they're quite dodgy defensively since that Atletico loss. Liverpool have to score 2 anyway, which wasn't easy for them recently.

Also Atleti's away form doesn't suggest a total crumble is likely. Last loss is vs RM at Bernabeu where they gave up 1 chance to Mendy-Benzema, before that they lost to Leonesa with B team and 0-2 @ Eibar when they've been really poor upfront. This has recently changed with a relative upswing in scoring.

But it's the CL, it's Anfield. Anything's possible, from Liverpool winning by 5 goals, to Atleti nicking a 1-1. Add in some starlet performance from Joao Felix and Liverpool can easily be out.

As long as Atletico scores one I think they will go through.

They have good chance. Liverpool is not playing good defense right now and Allison is out. Felix is back. Trust in Atletico!

From a selfish perspective I hope they won't put our game against Napoli behind closed doors as we will already be struggling to beat them with Camp Nou crowds, it will be even tougher without any crowd.

The other thing is the financial hit the clubs will take if they were to decide to play all these games (not just CL but league games as well) behind closed doors, it will be huge.
