Filipe Luis to Chelsea confirmed. They have to have the most solid defense in the world now, with Luis-Cahill-Ivanovic/Terry-Azpilicueta and Matic in front, that is so good....

If he does as well as he did last season, then yeah, probably. He's getting old though, weren't there rumours that he was leaving?

On paper... though chances are rather good that Mourinho transforms them into an actual fortress on the pitch.

Yup, quite a titanic defence, hope it don't sink!. Iva is 30 this year so he's alright for now. I don't see us signing any more defenders as we have backups coming back from loan, van Aanholt who was the best LB in Holland last season and Omeuro who is a Nigeria international, while I had heard Kalas is out on loan to Germany. We will probably sign another midfielder and that's it. Keep hearing about Pogba but who knows if we'll stump out enough cash. We're supposedly also in for Khedira.

Mourinho got immense pressure on him to win atleast the league and FA cup next season. I wonder if he'll get sacked if he goes trophyless yet another season.

Cahill was top 3 CB in England last season and Iva has always been very solid. You don't need every guy to be world class to have the best defence, it's the collection that counts. I heard Zouma was meant to go back on loan to France but I don't think he has, he's staying as far as I know. Hopefully he'll get some chances. Omeuro will probably go on loan again, though he can play RB too I think so he might be a good backup option for 2 positions. We'll see.

Football is not played on paper. You are talking like a united fanboy

how do united fanboys talk, i don't even know what that means, i don't think you do either.:eusa_think: moving on from that meaningless insult, chelsea's solid defence is obviously down to mourinho's ability to organise a defence, i never claimed anything different. which is why i don't understand the drooling over the names in that defence, because individually they are nothing amazing. another thing to take into account is chelsea didn't score enough goals last season, which is the reason they missed out on the title, they were solid defensively but often ran out of ideas in attack. if they want to win the league they will have to open up a bit and score more, which means they may not be as solid in defence.
